/// New ICS Session online : October 3d, 2009
Welcome to the Cromorne 13 2009-2010 composition cruisade!
Labsynth, Bedrael, Jeanne, Cliaven and Joe participated to this session. It went as follows :
/// Jane
1. Merci /// This session was a special one for Jane, because she got to use her brand new hardware for the first time since we offered it to her during her last birthday. Merci is an attempt at thanking us all for the gift while experimenting her new gizmo (you see the self reference here?). No more crapy laptop microphone sounds! Welcome to Jane 2.0!
2. Wörter /// Wörter ("lyrics") was made with samples from a german school book Jane uses this year with her pupils.
3. Whispering /// 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42... Yes, Jane is now officially a Lost addict. Those things happen.
Â
/// Bedrael
1. Where Is My Pad /// The game was to make large pad sounds, of the kind Bedrael enjoys so much, using exclusively a guitar, with a simple fx box. The title refers to The Pixies' famous new wave hit, Where Is My Mind, which Bedrael quotes in parts.
2. Music From The Tropical Industries /// The idea here was to make and industrial song using exclusively concrete sounds, composing something "Ã la Labsynth", as Bedrael himself mentioned it in a mail during the session.
3. Give Me A Reason /// After the classical ICS nervous breakdown due to technical misery (Bedrael had the strange idea of updating his OS a few days before the session), Bedrael thought "What the hell? I'll just pile eleven Subtractors up in Reason" and came out with this little dreamy diddy.
4. I Am Not Darkwave - Just Gothic Friendly /// Ah. Self irony. The breakfast of champions.This song was actually recorded two days prior to the ICS session, during a one hour shot. It exploits the art of cliché. It's a bonus track of sorts.
/// Labsynth
1. Jelly Fish /// This song uses concrete industrial sounds combed through a bunch of resonators, combined with free form themes on mallet instruments to try and give birth to an original mecanicorganical swimming being, sort of.
2. Guitar Zero /// This song was exclusively made with recordings from a (somewhat crapy) Epiphone folk guitar, heavily treated through a series of audio and sampler manipulations. The idea was to write a guitar piece without ever attempting to "play nice" on the instrument, which Labsynth can't do anyway. Every sound therefore comes from some kind of severe mistake while torturing the ungrateful instrument. The title refers, of course, to the ridiculously popular game in which you spend hours pushing plastic buttons on a toy guitar instead of actually practicing your instrument.
/// Joe
1. Warm Up, Combustion, Degradation, Go! /// Joe made half a session this time, due to his duties as a guitar teacher.The cyclical piece originates from Joe's morning guitar exercizes with scales.
2. The Song That Doesn't Exist! ///"This is the closest thing to a pop song I've ever made during an ICS session", Joe declares. You be the judge.
3. Despair /// Apparently depressed with his attempts of the day, Joe went full on jazzy on this one. For no reason at all. And came out with this astonishing blues, not even fearing the mockery of his Cromorne mates on the final fade out!
/// Cliaven
1. Bouncing Exercize 1 /// On one of his usual mathematical trips, Cliaven decided that he was going to dedicate his day to the following problem : how to make a bouncing ping pong rythmical effect fit into a 4/4 bar cycle.
2. Bouncing Exercize 2 /// Now with extra cheese, I mean instruments.
