The main purpose of this page is the fact that Fire + Ice makes strong influences on very large number of people and different artists, and the great deeds should never be forgotten as the Allfather said. What Ian Read created was pure and honest and we should give that to new generations and to all of us that holds so much respect for his work, from the heart.Ian Read started his musical career with "Current 93" in 1986 with a vocal track on the album. "Swastikas for Noody" and continued with "Death in June" on the "Brown Book". Then Ian met Tony Wakeford and "Sol Invictus" was born. "Sol Invictus" first offering was the mini LP "Against the Modern World" which came out in 1988 with Ian's vocals. Ian went to Japan on the 1988 tour featuring "Sol Invictus", "Death in June" and "Current 93". From this, the live album "In the Jaws of the Serpent" was released. A live performance at Chislehurst Caves saw Ian on percussion and vocals, and the release of a 7" single only for gig participants with "Sol Invictus" on one side with "Abattoirs of Love" (remixed with intro by Ian) and "Current 93" on the other. The album "Lex Talionis" followed and, finally, in I990, "Trees in Winter", which was Ian's last recording with "Sol Invictus". After some time spent on the continent, Ian returned to found a new band "Fire + Ice". "Gilded by tthe Sun" was their first album, released on NER, the label noted for "Death in June", in November 1992. NER BAD VC CD 144 The CD single "Blood on the Snow", released by "Asafoetida", features the track of the same name from the first album, a live version of "Michael" with Ian sang on "Trees in Winter", and an unreleased version of "Corpus Cgristi". FREMD CD-9. Mouse worked with "Psychic TV" in their heyday on the "Godstar" single and the album "Starlit Mire", as well as various live albums. Mouse plays Bass and Recorder and sings on the above two releases. W.M. Owens plays Guitar and Keyboards. The next release from "Fire + Ice", "Hollow Ways", features Simon Norris from "Death in June" and Michael Cashmore who works with "Current 93, as well as Joolie Woods who worked with Ian on "Trees in Winter". Also featured is one track with vocals by Freya Aswynn who has one release, "Fruits of Yggdrasil" and who is well known in the Runic mysteries. "Midwinter Fires" was next, featuring Joolie Woods and Mathew Butler. Also some lyrics by Sweyn Plowright organiser of Rune-Net. Ian also recently released his Rune-Gild Masters project, "Runa". Influences:Fire + Ice have had a large amount of influence on neofolk music. The music reflects Read's keen interests in magic lore, runes, tradition, renaissance medievalism, Nordic mysticism and other esoteric and occult mysteries.
Sounds Like: The heartlessness of the modern commercial consumer society ruins the lives of many. FIRE + ICE takes the purity and philosophy of early music and melds it into a message redolent with powerful seeds of honor, truth, loyalty and the bond of true friendship.
