Sundog is Sedayne's Shamanic Vagabondian Alter-Ego, specialising in a diversity of field-recorded Jew's Harps & subsequent studio treatments which tread the fine-line between minimalist experimentalism and new-age ceremony, albeit imbued with a genuine sense of sacred and otherwise magical Genius Loci.
Primarily, the music of Sundog is played on the trumpish gew-gaw most commonly known as the Jew's Harp, a class of Idiophonic Linguaphone which exists internationally & indigenously in a myriad of different types made from a diversity of metallic & organic materials; uniquely portable and ultimately intimate, with many types (though by no means all) using the players skull as a counterweight to facilitate the lingual vibration.
Secondarily, the music of Sundog is played and recorded encusively on-location, the various Jew's Harps being used to explore & otherwise interface with given environments in terms of their existing sonority or else their ambient acoustic and vibrational resonances in terms of sigificances both spiritual & cultural.
The third part of the process is the subsequent treatment of the field-recorded Jews Harps in real-time using a variety of filters to enhance or otherwise clarify the original recordings. Not all the recordings are treated in this way, but those which are, are done with due reverence to the primary & secondary procedures, much as one might use a photograph as a springboard for further creative work to enhance ones relationship with the subject. In this case the subject is the aural environment, filtering out the spectral leakages contained therein.
The music of Sundog is that of the Vagabond, living between civilisation and the wilderness; the world thus encapsulated becomes Vagabondia, wherein life is the empirical vibrancy of the pure moment, beyond which, death lurks in the reeking ditch-backs. The Jew's Harp was always the instrument of the Vagabond, the outsider, merrily astray; the urchin on his rambles by the blossoming boughs of May, hence the image of the Green Man which pervades much of Sundog's work, for just as the teeth grip the cold iron of the trump frame (thus connecting it to the skull) so the Green Man grips the afflicting fronds of nature at its most invasive.
