About Me

Andrew John Brook. I've been playing bass since I was 11. Pete Shaw an I met whilst working on a recording for North East Musician Andrew Lobb. We we introduced by Iain Anderson of Panhaggerty studios. We worked as the Pete Shaw band with Ian for about a year. After that we formed Portinspelk in 1999, recording Butterfly and The Diving Bell in 2000. We continued playing together under the names of The Spelk, Teacuphead and T.C.H in a number of open mic sessions in and around Newcastle and Blyth as well as playing in The Newcastle Festival, The Green Festival, Brampton Live and clubs and pubs from the Scottish Borders to South Yorkshire, gracing the same stages as Baz Warne, Old Blind Dogs, Harvey Andrews and Jez Lowe. You'll not get to see teacuphead as a band anymore. Check out Pete in his new incarnation as Beeblefish. Follow the link in the my friends section. My listening has changed so greatly recently, I'm sort of looking for musicians in and around Newcastle upon Tyne who might be interested in Full band acoustic and traditional music as well as anything else I can get my hands on. I'm now playing with a Big band on the Double bass and being forced to sight read music, delicious and thanks to Todd Parks for advise on plucking techniques. Also playing with the Coquet high school Ceilidh Band. been roped into playing at church, mind you nice playing with a choir.
