"The Clique" had success on White Whale Records, including the 2 million selling record and smash hit, “Sugar On Sunday”, that went to Number One in many of the U.S. major markets and in Europe. The CD, “The Clique”, was re-released in Europe by Rivola, UK. "The Clique" was inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame in the Museum of the Gulf Coast, located in Port Arthur, Texas in January of 2008. Oscar was also signed as a solo artist to Monument Records in Nashville, and released his version of the popular Ronnie Lane/Faces hit single, “How Come”. As a faculty member of the Arts Institute of Houston, Oscar taught songwriting, music business marketing and copyright law.Oscar Houchins considers himself to be a diverse songwriter due to the many musical influences and experiences over the years. He writes rock, gospel, folk and country. The sample songs represented here are an example of that. "I'm Country Music" is a song he co-wrote with Doug Summers while living in Nashville. Doug Summers is singing in this version that Oscar produced. Oscar wrote "Welcome to the Country" while sitting on an outdoor patio in Corpus Christi, Texas one day waiting for an appointment. This version is sung by Tim Raybon of the Raybon Brothers and was produced by Oscar. "Everybody Needs" was a collaboration. He was very fortunate to have this song recorded by Rita Coolidge on her CD entitiled, "Thinkin' About You". Oscar is currently a producer and songwriter residing in Austin, Texas. His current projects are: The Hi-Tones (aka Dans La Lune) and Autumns Reign are being co-produced with Frenchie Smith at The Bubble Recording Studio.
