I have been making music for the last 20 years and have had numerous Record & Publishing deals in the UK and in America during that period. As a young man I Originally wanted to be a Singer/Songwriter as I dreamt of famous 80’s singers covering my songs. As a fan of N.M.E and The Melody Maker of the time, I would scour the small ads on the back pages looking at dodgy publishing company’s hoping that one of them would take note of my talent. This never happened. But at aged 18 I soldiered on never the less.
It was in a drug fuelled 1988 club land and the birth of House music, that I befriended music producers and DJ’s whilst partying. In that first year I made records with Ollymax and DJ Shapps ‘Last Night a DJ saved my Life’ and worked with one of the many Keyboard wizards of the time Mr. Monday with whom I gathered touring experience in the UK and Europe adding vocals to his melodic hypnotic dance sound. My break into the land of the Majors arrived with Danny Rampling whom I met during the Southwark Street Shoom days. I remember singing to him in the club and being louder than the music being played which impressed him. By 1990 Danny asked me to sing on his first record ‘I Hate Hate’. The publicity that the record evoked bought me to the attention of Phil Hope an A&R man at Anxious Music and its main man David A. Stewart of Eurythmics fame. Anxious Music Publishing became my home as a Singer/Songwriter and recording artist throughout the decade.
From 1990-94 I toured the UK with my band highlighting new songs and working towards my first solo record deal and Eusebe was born. With my Sister Sharon Eusebe and cousin Alison Etienne in tow on backing vocals we created a live and energetic Rock/Hip Hop sound that led us to our break through record ‘Rap made me Do it’. We produced this record on a white label and it caused a stir amongst the Major Record labels. This led us to E.M.I Records and in 1995 Eusebe released the Rap Album ‘Tales From Mama’s Yard’ on a Joint record venture with our own label Mama’s Yard/E.M.I.
Eusebe released 3 singles ‘If Masser say’s its Good, Captain of Love and Summertime Healing’ whilst touring extensively with The James Taylor Quartet and 2 UK tours with Shaun Ryder and Black Grape which we survived in all it’s madness. There’s an irony in the tale, but one of the songs we got signed for was a track called ‘Pick it up, Fuck it up, Drop it’ which was a tale of the process of signing with a major record label. They loved our audacity but our words rang true when we were eventually dropped in 1996.
Singing and performing with my sister, cousin and family was a great experience but I wanted to go back to my initial plan of a solo act and by the summer of 1996 I had formed a new band with accomplished musicians that I’d met on the road, service stations, Venues and Airports. I wrote some new songs at the time with Scott Shields (Gun & Shakespeare’s Sister), Jimmy Hogarth (Shakespeare’s Sister) and Martin Slattery (Black Grape) and within 3 months we were being courted by Record Companies in America. By the end of the year we had jumped the UK ship and signed to Sony/Work Group in Los Angelos, which became our new home and the Band Bond was formed. We produced the Album ‘Bang out of Order’ with Matthew Wilder of No Doubt fame and courted the services of the legendary Grammy award winner engineer/mixer Andy Wallace of Jeff Buckley, Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame. Bond toured the U.S extensively with Spacehog and on our own before Fatherhood forced me to make a decision to stay in America or come home. I came home.
The band split and I continued to write and produce for label acts in the UK with Martin Slattery from the band and in 2000 I signed a new publishing deal with Sony Music in the UK. Since then I have written for the love of me and not the Industry that these days is slowly dying. With my New Myspace page I will showcase songs I have written in those lost years and share them with you all my friends that matter. Live shows will follow. But if you’re a band and your looking for the ultimate Front man, Singer, Showman and connoisseur with a strong image, then please feel free to contact me. I know my strengths!Enjoy!
