About Me

Ron Dziubla is a freelance musician and composer based in Los Angeles.Originally from Chesterton, Indiana, Ron moved to Miami after high school to attend the University of Miami. Upon graduation from U.M.'s prestigious School of Music, Ron got busy in the bustling South Florida music scene. The '90s found Ron touring with international pop star Chayanne, recording and producing CDs for Jammy Award-winning artists like Roach Thompson and Magda Hiller, and touring and recording with South Florida's favorite voodoo band, Iko-Iko. His work with Iko-Iko included two critically acclaimed CDs, "Protected by Voodoo" and "Shine," and a stint as the house band for Jimmy Buffett's musical, "Don't Stop the Carnival." Iko-Iko's record label, Little Silver Records, served as the home for Ron's first solo release, Melenhead, a solid helping of saxophone driven instrumental rock. Critics all over the world loved the CD (Brian Parrish of KSYM in San Antonio, Texas, called it one of the best instro releases of 1999), and it enjoyed much airplay on stations that play instro rock. (Thank you very much public radio, including All Things Considered.)In May of 2000, Ron made Hollywood, California, his home. Since arriving in the Southland, he has busied himself in many facets of music. As a saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist, Ron has performed and recorded with artists such as Royal Crown Revue, Los Straitjackets, Janiva Magness, Sextus (Eric Dover), Kid Ramos, Los Fabulocos, Lynwood Slim, Rick Holmstrom, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics, James Intveld, the Hollywood Combo, Nikka Costa, the Jonathan Stout Orchestra, Dean Mora and His Orchestra, Eddie Baytos and the Nervis Brothers, and many more. As a session musician, you can hear Ron's saxophone and guitar in the films Thirteen and Contact. You can see and hear Ron as a member of the house band for TLC's "The Singing Office." He has also written music for film and television, with tracks placed in television shows and national commercial spots. As an engineer and producer, Ron mixed the Blues Leaf release "Looka Here" by guitarist George Friend, and he mixed and co-produced the Delta Groove release by Lynwood Slim entitled "Last Call." "Last Call" was named one of Blue's Critic's (www.bluescritic.com) top 30 contemporary blues releases for 2006. Ron composed the score to director Michael Lazar's indie venture Machine; starring Michael Madsen and Neal McDonough; and he continues to write music for numerous publishers and music libraries.Ron re-joined Chayanne in 2004 and 2005 for yet another world tour, including a summer 2005 U.S. stint in which Chayanne shared the bill with Alejandro Fernandez and Marc Anthony for a Latin-pop-star extravaganza. In the fall of 2005, Ron happily accepted an invitation to join Ricky Martin’s band to play saxophone, guitar, and keyboards. His tenure with the RM band, which continues, has included two world tours and two recordings, the Grammy winning “MTV Unplugged,” and “Ricky Martin Live, The Black and White Tour.”For 2009, Ron will be touring with one of the most successful singer/songwriters in the history of Latin music, Franco de Vita. He'll be playing saxophone, guitar, and keyboards.Professionally, Ron Dziubla continues to keep busy playing the saxophone in all styles but specializing in rock and roots music; playing his rock-and-roll doubles--guitar and keyboards; composing music for film, television, and those who ask for tracks; and recording his own band, Melenhead, and other artists at his home studio and elsewhere, using his skills as a Pro Tools engineer, producer, and musician.Ron Dziubla is currently a member of The American Federation of Musicians, Local 47; Broadcast Music, Inc.; The University of Miami Alumni Association; and The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).

Mike Mennell always stops by to play bass and sing. Stewart Jean stops by to play drums and percussion. Brent Harding shows up with his bass, Bryan Head shows up with drums, and Rick Holmstrom shows up with guitar and amp. Eric Dover comes by with lap steel and guitar, and Kid Ramos comes by with strat and baritone guitar. John Palmer brings everything you can hit--drums, congas, bongos, plastic things. I go to Brett Simons' pad for bass-ness and other types of cool stuff. RJ Ronquillo stops by to rock. Deke Dickerson delivers the rock via the US internet. Junior Watson plays does his thing, and Rob Douglas plays bass. A lot of times we go down to Pete Curry's place and rock it. Cole Ynda sings, Maria sings and screams, Nova plays percussion, toy piano, and the accordion and throws an occasional diva fit. Nova has now started singing and blowing through the saxophone, so you know it's all over.
Influences: King Curtis, Jan Garbarek, Lee Allen, Hank Mobley. Link Wray, Booker T. and the MG's. Bladerunner, The Boxer, Heat, Taxi Driver, Get Shorty. Maria Mikaella.
Sounds Like: Paint peeling blasts. Cinema-esque compositions. Silly sunny sounds. Dark shadows in dark alleys. Screams, honks, growls. Majesty. "His horn skulks around dark corners like a Raymond Chandler villain searching for an easy mark."--Jake Cline, City Link Magazine
