Hiphop has had its chosen few who stand out of the crowd with their swagg,
delivery, they just had "it" from Biggie, 2pac, Big pun, Jay-z, Nas, Lil wayne,
the list can go on of superstar names a name in the making Young ci actually
pronounced "Young C" is ready to claim his spot in that great list! From Chicago
IL Young Ci real name Christopher Jamal Manning found himself playing with music
at the age of 9 growing up from his father side of the family "music was
everything" said the Chicago mc "I actually grew up wanting nothing to do with
music because I felt as though it was pressured on me". That all changed at the
age of 13 when he started playing with a popular beat program from the internet
"fruity loops" "It was actually just somthing fun to do at first I just liked
using my creativty and seeing people's reactions and being that my dad had his
own label he would use my beats" But at the age of 15 Young ci's world started
to take a turn for the worst when his father was arrested and sentenced to 6
years in prison "I felt as though when I lost him I lost all motivation to keep
doing music I said to hell with it" Young ci continued to go to school and look
for a job when he became unpleased with the amount he was getting payed for work
he than quit working and at the age of 18 he finished school and turned to the
streets. "I felt as though school wasn't working for me I promised my mom I
would graduate high school but these 9 to 5 jobs just couldn't cut what I was
looking for." After so long and all his friends going to jail for drug charges
he knew it was time to take another route and that's when he became more serious
about rapping. "I really didn't want to rap at first because it seem like just a
way everybody tries to make it, nothing about it interested me to take it
serious" until he got his first laptop and a microphone he went under the name
"Lil Chris" and made a bunch of freestyles and put them on a mixtape called
"True gangstas re-birth of hiphop" the mixtape was released on www.datpiff.com
and received good reviews for a beginner. "Everybody was saying my lyrics were
nice I just needed better equipment, find my delivery, etc which made me take it
more serious" He ended up having to change his name to Young C due to the uk
artist Lil Chris "I really didn't want to make the change I was so comfortable
with the name but I took the change in my name and said I would change as an
artist learn the business more and learn to open up more to my audience and let
them know more about me" that he did with his second and most sucsessful mixtape
"Transformation from Lil chris to Young C" but even with a better review and a
bigger fanbase that still didn't please the rapper he wanted to stand out so he
decided to change his name to Young ci "I added a I at the end because there are
so many Young C's and I wanted to be different and by spelling it Ci it still
pronouces as "C" so it worked" He then dropped one of his biggest songs up to
date "aye gurl" which was huge but never reached it's potential "I couldn't
promote it right it was suppose to get me signed but I just couldn't promote it
right" the same goes with other hits like "My money" "Circles" and "Fresha than
a mufuka" Young ci than took a huge lost in march of 08 when his laptop caught
on fire "I didn't know where to go from there I had 600 songs I felt like I
should have quit" for six months Young ci was missing from the rap scene and
behind close doors experience Finacial, family, and street problems that were so
big for such a little time "Most people would have either broken, been in jail,
or been killed to go through what I have been through" annoucing in August of 08
Young Ci is back and better than ever with so much to tell the world and a
