Dugan Hös

The musical spectrum of Dugan Hos always seems to catch people‘s attention. Ranging from driving funk grooves, to ska fused rock. From grungy reggae riffs, to head shredding metal beat-downs. Psycho-psychedelic guitar licks dance around heavy, phat-ass basslines. McCrae (guitar) and Traemon’s (bass) inspirational to cynical, rock-bottom to good times lyrics speak of issues political, social, and hilarious. Everything gets pieced together with Adam’s fiery hand-drum rhythms weaving through Carter’s solid, explosive beats.
Dugan Hos is one of the top bands hailing from Southern Colorado. Born in Trinidad, CO at the Trinidad Brewing Company’s open-mic-nights in 2005, the band quickly became the TBC’s house band. Heavily influenced by reggae, funk and blues during this time, the boys added this sway to their grunge, ska, jazz and rock roots. Mixing these styles seemed at first odd to some fans, but interest remained, Dugan Hos hung on to it’s highly energized live show acclaim. Through 2005 they expanded their talents, and wrote the album “Brewer’s Dozen” to honor the brewery that helped quench their thirsts.
“Brewer’s Dozen” revealed the dynamic range of Dugan Hos. Songs like “No Vacation” and “Jam House” were fast tempo ska/grunge backed with funky and metal breakdowns. Other songs showed a psychedelic, rhythmic, improvised aspect emerging.
Dugan Hos began playing shows and gaining new fans up and down the Front Range, from Cuchara to Denver. Pueblo was the first city to catch on. Dugan Hos gained much respect with the local bar scene, quickly headlining shows. Raging late night house parties (“Hos parties”) fueled the fire, igniting a buzz in the underground nightlife of the city. Dugan Hos also became a well-known name amongst bands and musicians in Colorado Springs and Denver.
2006 saw the release of “Lobotomy Boy”, a little darker, and heavier than the previous album. A year’s worth of basement recordings and acoustic campfire sessions had refined Dugan Hos’ style. The song “Delta 9” is a aggressively driven, funky explanation of the Dugan Hos philosophy. “Atomic Circus” exposes an apocalyptic vision through grungy, droning guitar licks contrasted with eerie, reggae/ska riffs.
Dugan Hos is far from done. With an ever increasing arsenal of material (two albums in the works right now), these boys continue to impress new ears and satisfy old fans.
