The Hip Hop Congress is a 501 (c) 3 Non Profit Corporation. The Hip Hop Congress mission is to use the culture of Hip Hop to inspire young people to get involved social action, civic service, and cultural creativity. Hip Hop Congress is the product of a merger of artists and students, music and community. It achieves this mission in a variety of ways.
Its Chapter Program develops chapters in universities, high schools and communities. Hip Hop Congress currently has 29 chapters. Hip Hop Congress chapters engage in a range of activity promoting hip hop culture on their campus or in their community. Hip Hop Congress chapters produce or sponsor over 200 events a year. Most chapters produce Awareness Weeks: a week of different events focusing on hip hop culture (panels, speeches, emcee/bboy/dj exhibition/battle, awareness festivals, screenings, etc).
Its Artist Program is designed to help artists pool resources, sell music and take advantage of all the opportunities the music industry has to offer without giving away the rights to their works in return. It strives to create an international web of resources and contacts for its artist members. The network is run via regional delegates and a national oversight committee. Some Hip Hop Congress artists include Shamako Noble, The Procussions, Rahman Jamaal, Aloe Blacc from Emanon, La Boussole (Le Havre, France), the Bedouin, and Jacka and Husalah of the Mob Figaz.
As many services within the educational system become privatized, more and more institutions are looking to independent contractors and consultants for program design and execution. In addition, the application and addition of Urban Arts into the education system through youth centers, events and generational shifts is becoming all the more common. Hip Hop Congress, as a national and international organization that is dedicated to its mission, is constantly looking to develop and work with those developing experimental and pedagogically proven methods of using Hip Hop as a positive motivationaland academic tool. That’s why HHC has picked up Education as an initiative and centralization point for its artists, chapters, partners, and donors.
Its Online Program manages this website and fosters collaboration with like-minded websites. The website helps to connect chapters, artists, and any other person working for the Hip Hop Congress. It comments upon the state of the world today and encourages members to share their opinion. With over 10,000 hits a day, it is the face of Hip Hop Congress that most people in the world know best.
The Hip Hop Congress national office, comprised of nine members available at all times, is an active think tank that devises new initiatives using the Hip Hop Congress‘ tools to create new inspiration and action in local communities. The National Office also develops strategic partnerships with other organizations throughout the country and is currently developing a fundraising campaign.
Hip Hop Congress‘ mirror organization, Hip Hop Congress Europe, networks with organizations in France, Africa, England, Belgium and the Czech Republic with the intention of creating after school programs and sharing projects created in these schools in a pen pal-type relationship through the use of technology such as Web TV. Hip Hop Congress Europe is based in Paris, France.
Hip Hop Congress has also been fortunate enough to receive the pro-bono legal services of Manatt Phelps & Phillips, LLP, one of the nation’s premiere law firms.
Hip Hop Congress‘ goals are to continue to build these programs while devising creative ways for the three to interact, always keeping its mission statement in mind.

REFUGE - Real Education For Urban Growth Enterprises
We utilize, centrallize, and specialize but are not limited to the four elements of Hip Hop Culture- Emceeing, Djing, Graph Art, and B-Girl/B-Boying!! For it is our vehicle ( and it's on dubs too)!!
Our Mission is to provide community resources,
support, and development opportunities and solutions
through the Fussion of arts and education.
Our Vision is to assertively address pressing issues
in our community and with our youth by creatively
supporting institutions, organizations, and
individuals that can make a significant social,
educational, and artistic impact.
R.E.F.U.G.E. was an organization established in 2001
(Formerly known as S.B.C.) to pool the resources of
Urban Arts, Education, and Community based resources
to support the groups and the populations served by
entities involved. Today, R.E.F.U.G.E. works with
various institutions in the Bay Area (Peninsula ,Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, etc) , as well as many other parts in Northern California.
FUNCTIONS of REFUGE
I. Advocacy:
The American heritage dictionary defines advocacy
as the act of pleading or arguing in favor of
something, such as a cause, idea, or policy; active
support. There can be a host of reasons why you may
need some outside support to really drive home the
point of your cause. R.E.F.U.G.E. has supported
movements in Education, Labor, Volunteers Services,
and a host of other issues and policies. Whether you
need artists and music that represent your
perspective, or guest speakers and presentations to
enhance your impact.
II. Consultancy:
The very same dictionary mentioned above defines
the word consult as seeking advice or information of
or referring to. R.E.F.U.G.E. is eager to act quickly,
professionally to respond to your needs. Do you need
help putting together an event, or finding performers.
Are you interested in exploring Urban Arts programs
and dont know where to start. Are you looking to
train your staff to deliver workshops or presentations
for students without all the tools to deliver the way
you know you can? R.E.F.U.G.E. delivers the finest in
consultancy for non-profits, schools, and others in
student focused or youth focused areas.
III. Youth Programs:
These days, everybody could use a helping hand
in ensuring the best for our youth. You want to
provide a core base of knowledge and experience, but
you also want to provide the best chances to express,
explore and create in the areas that most interest
your students. These days, urban arts like rapping,
breakdancing, graff art and spoken word poetry are
taking over the hearts and consciousness of our young.
This is why if you want to take the best possible
educational advantage of this fact, you should go with
an organization that has worked with some of the best,
ranging from Zulu Nation and the Temple of Hip Hop to
the Riekes Center for Human Enhancement and Camp
Anytown. R.E.F.U.G.E. knows the ropes when it comes to
delivering quality youth programming in the form of
workshops, performances, and references to the
organizations that deliver what you need.
