The Devotions

About Me

OK, so here's the somewhat abridged version, for those of you who don't know... You're listening to songs that we're tracked almost 12 years ago at the legendary Fort Apache studios in Cambridge, MA. This incarnation of the Devotions was born in '95 at the Kendall(the cafe, not the T stop)when Annie was bartending there. The core was the trio of Baerenwald, Felice and Mirsky. Mirsky was playing in a power trio, whose drummer was Diane Gately(formerly of Girl on Top, Bloodletter - currently with Dirty Blonde & others) Mirsky dragged Felice to see this power trio to get a look at Diane. It was hearing impaired dart team night at an Allston pool hall(which would explain the distinct lack of applause) The quartet was established. The band began rehearsals almost immediately and, before long, were playing out at some of your favorite local holes. Preproduction started late fall/early winter and all of the songs(from the Fort Apache sessions) were documented in 8 tr. format at "Red Curtain" studios in Allston. This tape is floating around somewhere and contains songs that never made it on the Fort reels. If someone will put up the $$, we'll release that too :-) A producer was needed, that was a fan of Felice's earlier work. We brainstormed and made calls and deliberated, but in the end were rewarded with the best of any and all possibilities. Steve Wynn(NOT the hotel dude, c'mon, you know who I'm talking about!)signed on. Time was booked, strings were changed, drums were tuned and miked and healthy provisions(lol)bought. And, in a bitter cold january 1996, the Devotions tracked 15 songs. What followed is really no different than any other rock band's story. There were; gigs, issues, personnel changes, more personnel changes...Ultimately, John brought back the Real Kids in the later 90s and continues to deliver his no nonsense, fiery brand of rock n roll. Scott played with; Asa Brebner, Reddy Teddy(again), Robin Lane(again). Diane played with pretty much everyone on the blues/r & b circuit in Boston as well as hiring herself out as a pit percussionist. And Mirsky, well...he's a little shy and doesn't give away much. BUT - If you really want to know, you can check out; the Flying A Holes, Hixx, the Mirskys, A.D.U.L.T.S...don't ask him, though, he doesn't like to talk about it. Back to the Devotions - 2007- After sitting on the tape for years(and fielding/dodging endless questions, eg. "when the f**k are you putting it out?"), the band has remixed and mastered the songs and is currently working on a distribution deal. Over the next few weeks you can listen for the Devotions on radio stations across the country(and, perhaps, the pond) We'll also put up different songs on this myspace, each week. Look for an early 2008 release of the full length, 15 song Devotions cd. And, while each player will continue with their current projects, don't be surprised if the Devotions show up in support of...um...let's just call it Devotions 2008 (for now)
