Richmond Soul

About Me

Richmond is the UK's most innovative soul duo available. Both 26, they have extensive performing experience and spent many years perfecting their craft through a variety of projects including a disco harmony quartet, a pop/soul choir and a variety of acoustic and fully live outfits. Everything before now has certainly contributed to their polished act based around soul, motown, RnB, funk, pop and a peppering of swing for those more prestigious occasions.
Together with their previous ventures, Chris and Steve have performed leads in the bright lights of London’s West End at theatres such as The London Palladium and the Strand theatre. They have supported acts at the Southampton Mayflower theatre, and amongst others, supported the likes of 80’s icon Yazz, Xfactor finalists 4Tune, and the legend that is Peter Andre.
As Richmond, the boys recently won a singing contest to win the opportunity to support Britain’s premiere soul singer ‘Lemar’, close to their hometown in Southampton. Richmond have also had the privilege of supporting 70’s Disco outfit ‘Heatwave’, Alexander O'Neal and numerous other acts towards the end of 2007; The Drifters and The X Factor tour, to name but a few.

In between ‘mixing it up’ with the Stars, Richmond regularly perform at bars, clubs and music venues to party-goers who always come away buzzing. However, their stylish but approachable demeanour and slick mix of music will perfectly compliment your corporate event, dinner or wedding.
Either way, it is clear to see that Richmond are at the forefront of our genre and we are constantly rejuvenating audiences with our dynamic and original style.

Testimonials
“We would just to say a huge thank you to both as you made both our New year's eve party and Hotel Party a great experience for everyone and something definitely worth repeating again! We appreciated their talent not only for having fantastic voices and personalities, but also for being able to integrate with the guests and staff to encourage them to get up and party!!!!! Having already successfully booked the guys for two events at the hotel, we would have no hesitation in booking them again and have already set about recommending them to the other hotels within the group, as well as clients and business partners within the city”
Gemma Spooncer, Malmaison Hotel, Manchester
As one of the leading Artiste Promotion companies in the UK, we were totally blown away with the outstanding performance that Richmond gave at an event we attended recently. These Lads are by far, one of the best Duos we have seen for a long time in the UK, they have style, charisma and above all they have real talent. With a wide repertoire of tracks, they were able to keep a full house audience on their feet and dancing in the aisles during their performance. This smart, clean cut duo will certainly be around for many years to come entertaining audiences in the thousands, and we wish them well.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://www.richmondsoul.co.uk
Band Members: Chris Johnson & Steve Giles
Influences: Influences come thick and fast when searching through motown, soul and RnB and this has been the driving force for their choice of genre. Marvin Gaye, Rahsaan Patterson, Otis Redding, BoyzIIMen, The O'Jays, Brian McKnight and of course, the undisputed King of All Music... Mr Stevie Wonder.

They both share a growing love for 80's rare groove and funk-soul classics, and they seem to be sneeking in ones and twos into their repertoire. This awesome era was ushered in by the likes of Kool & The Gang, Fatback Band, Sister Sledge, Maze and The Commodores and is still mixed effortlessly by the most contemporary of soulful house DJs.

Further influences come apparent by the gig list, such as the Big Band numbers and the swing/jazz inclusions (who doesn't like a bit of swing anyways?!?!), but there are so many artists to pay homage to that it's just impossible to do them all justice without waffling on and on and on.... which I fear I may have already done!!! Soz.

In Richmonds own words - 'We just frickin' love music... period'
