Ms. E, also known as, Erika Garcia, is a five foot seven inch Hip Hop/R&B artist. She is a native of Dayton,OH with a black Hispanic descent. Performing has always been a part of her genetic make-up. Her mother Carmen was a renowned singer with various artists, as well as an African group called Sankofa. Her grandmother Nana was also a singer growing up. Talent runs all through her family from Aunts to cousins, varying in all types of skills professional and performance.
Erika, started drawing crowds at the young age of one by dancing to an Old School favorite,†Atomic Dogâ€. The talent didn’t stop there. By the age of five she was writing haiku’s and poetry, singing in a gospel choir called,†Joy Bellsâ€, by six, modern jazz/tap/ballet by the age of ten, in the “Dayton Gems Drill Team†by eleven, modeling at the age of thirteen, acting by fourteen, as well as operating in the youth government dealing with politics. Mrs. E was involved any many other activities during Elementary and Junior High. She competed in oratorical speech contest, Power Of The Pen, Essay contest, Lucia May Wiant Speech Contest, concert choir, and band. She also played many instruments including the flute, clarinet, trumpet, tuba, and keyboard. She attended schools for science and performing arts, that involved auditions and pre-qualifications to be accepted, as well as academic requirements.
During high school she worked with College Students, at Wright State University, training their dancers and giving choreography techniques. It didn’t stop there, she was a part of advance choir under the leadership of Grammy nominated director, Doug Toles; as well as The Cougar football Dance Team/basketball Dance Team, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) under Jeraldine Blunden, dance III; under the instruction of Debbie Blunden-Diggs, who is the daughter of the founder of DCDC, so you know they worked her hard. She appreciated the hardship cause it made her an expert dancer. Her plate was pretty full but she still made time for her church gospel choir, friends and a part-time job.
After high school she still remained involved in those activities, but bigger things began to transpire while in college. Her Daughter, Lyrik, was born and became the primary focus. She was promoted to store manager of a cellular company , and increased her hours to accommodate her new life style, as well as a model, college student, and studio work. Baby-sitting was not a problem for her, being that her child was allowed to attend work with her, and eventually started early school. Eventually, she started performing on local access channels, Black Cultural Music Festivals, clubs, parties and many more places. She also became a hostess on DATV a public access channel interviewing national and local artist on a show called, “Da Showâ€! Mrs. E herself performed on that show with a childhood best friend, as a singer not a rapper.
Moving forward in August of 2005, Ms. E and her sister Jessica had to go to a model shoot at the Holiday Inn Hotel, where national artist were brought there to perform. Malachi, who was an artist signed to Sony/Epic, had to perform on that particular day. Neither one of them were trying to be in a relationship, because they had both just gotten out of Seven year uncomfortable ones;even though they weren't old enough. Besides' they both had a lot on their plate, and distance was a measure. He being a native of Clarksdale, MS a country boy, and a city girl connecting together seemed out of the question. They went to dinner became inseparable, and shortly after they got together and had a beautiful daughter, Makya. That didn’t stop their career from un-folding they kept it moving.
In 2006, Ms.E introduced Malachi to Mohammad Shehadeh and shared the idea of starting a record label under the instruction of Malachi. The three of them brainstormed to come together with the basics of the company. Malachi decided what the company name would be and Mrs. E agreed to it.
Ms. E became the First Lady of the team. There were other people there in the beginnings that are no longer involved because they were bad seeds. There’s no way to grow a harvest if you have good seeds mixed with bad seeds. Basically, the weeds weeded themselves, according to Ms.E. It was a rough rocky road, but it didn’t stop the persistent progress of the group to formulate sounds that will add flavor to the music industry.
Currently, Ms. E has been performing around the US in Alabama, Atlanta, Mississippi, Cleveland,Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit,Florida, New York, and Tennesee just to name a few! She also hosts selective nights at Santana Cafe's Open Mic & Tallent Night featuring all the hottest female vocalist around the world. Ms. E has a natural tactic for enjoying life, she works well with others and respects other people in the music industry! Ms.E has been doing alot of collabs with local artist; like lol(cleveland),Leon The Don(Dayton), William Shelby (Dayton),amongst others, as well as industry artist! There's no music era that can hold her because she's a universal artist who loves anything to do with entertainment!
