FAQ's About Starvue Entertainment:
Does Starvue have a membership fee?
Hard to believe but not at all. From the beginning we were adamant that Starvue would not rip off young people through their aspiration to be successful in the music industry or offer false hope. We would ensure that the talent we have are viable talent that we believe in and would not mimic other organisations who use young people’s aspirations as a means of making a quick buck.Starvue entertainment is driven by artist-focused objectives.
How does Starvue get paid?
It depends on the scope of service we provide, however a management function will warrant a 20% commission fee on gross monies earned during the time constraint of the contract.
Do I need a Demo to join Starvue?
Not necessarily, as we have a in-house production team.
If I have a Demo, how good technically, should it be?
Starvue Entertainment is looking for outstanding talent, excellent vocal ability, hit songs and original artists, not great sound engineers. Having said so, we are able to re-record and improve any existing works you may have.
Who Listens to my Demo?
The A & R team at Starvue Entertainment are the first in the filtering process and if they like what they hear then over the following weeks most people who are likely to be involved with the artist will have heard it. i.e. Starvue’s Production team, Vocal coaches, A & R Executives from relevant labels etc.Remember, we are staking our professional reputation on your talent therefore your material must be credible and worth listening to.
What style of music do Starvue cater for?
We promote and maintain a tolerance and understanding of music from all genres and culture and we appreciate their diversity. In particular, we look for artists that can bring something new, fresh and exciting to their genre of music.
Can't I just send my music direct to a record company myself?
Yes you can, but the likelihood is, it won't be listened to. Most labels don't accept unsolicited material. The overheads involved in listening to hundreds of such demos outweighs the small probability of finding a reputable artist.Starvue has spent many years building an impressive portfolio of key music industry personnel, all whom have a very active relationship with Starvue Entertainment. Rest assured your music will not fall on deaf ears.
What about self promotion through Internet - based resources?
A web site is imperative, however they are restricted in regards to how much they can help your career. Remember the web is exactly as the word suggest, an intricate interconnected electronic maze of people, organisations , services, all whom have different objectives and motives to put across. Therefore, getting your music recognised via the web, although is an integral marketing tool in developing fan base, this should not replace gigs as the main means of getting your music to your target audience, but in conjunction with gigs, the Internet offers more scope for self promotion.
Can I be involved in the planning of my career?
Your involvement is a must, the Starvue team are there to give you guidance and advise in accordance with your wishes and aspirations for your career. This may include advices in connection with image, “ branding “ advertising, PR publicity, national and international trends which may affect you and our industry sector. Having said so, the final decision on all matters belongs to you.
Must any agreement entered with Starvue be exclusive?
Yes, this is imperative for the benefits of both parties.
What chance have I got in obtaining a record deal ?
This question revolves around many factors such as, talent, originality, marketability, etc. Having said so, Starvue is unable to promise that your demo will result in a recording contract however, we’ll try our very best and it doesn’t cost you anything. We’ll forward your demo to our clientele whenever appropriate. In addition there are options open to our artist via our own promotional label.
How long will a record deal last?
It depends on many factors, for a new artist there will more likely be a series of options, each successive option only exercised if the previous year was financially viable. For a record company taking on a new artist, there is a high investment of time, effort and money, therefore, like any other business maximising profitability remain a major factor.
Who will pay for the recording?
The record company will, however this overhead would be treated as an advance to the artist on account of royalties. If the advance is not recouped, you don’t have to pay it back, hence the importance of keeping the cost of recording to a minimum without compromising quality. This also applies to all recoupable advances (i.e. cash advance ) all of which are inducement and are effectively interest free loans.
