About Me

Currently Updating! It's renovation time and my MySpace is getting a facelift!Hi, I am the Band. My name is Pomai and I am from Pana'ewa, located on the Big Island of Hawaii. I was born & raised here on this Beautiful Island. I graduated from St.Joseph's High School and I am a Beauty School drop-out and I can't seem to stay in College, not because I'm lazy and I don't want to study, but because of the demands of Life, but I know that God has a plan for me.When I was a little girl, I remember my Mom and her sisters along with my Dad singing and practicing for their own shows. They traveled quite frequently throughout the World, just sharing a piece of Hawaii through Song & Dance. I've been performing since age 3. As soon as I could enter my first singing competition, I was on that stage. I don't play any instruments, my voice is my instrument.I've entered numerous competitions as well as my share of pageants. I enjoyed most of the experiences. I think what I loved so much about it all was that I could dress up and perform, doing what I truly LOVE. The competition part of it all wasn't so enjoyable, especially when I became older, I felt that it was time to move on. In 1994, I recorded my 1st song, "Creator of Love" that was featured on a compilation album. This was the beginning of a whole new world for Pomai. In 1997, my Parents signed my brother and I up for the Oceanic Cable's "Road to Fame" competition on Oahu and we sang a duet "Up where we Belong." We won the Grand Prize...well, next thing we knew, we were recording our 1st full length Brother/Sister album titled, "1st things 1st." This album placed Pomai & Loeka on the map here in the Islands. We went on to win top honors for this album in what we call our Hawaiian Grammy's here in the Islands. The "Na Hoku Hanohano Awards." The next year we released another full length album that placed Pomai & Loeka in the running again for "Song of the Year" with our Summer Hit "Come A'ama Crab," written & produced by our Father Lloyd Longakit. From 1997 thru 2002, my brother & I must have sung "Come A'ama Crab" a thousand and somewhat times, but we didn't mind.In October of 2000, a German native was visiting for the Ironman Triatholon over in Kailua Kona. He had heard "Come A'ama Crab" over the airwaves and couldn't help but find out who it was that sang this catchy tune. This German Native was persistent and didn't give up pursuing. In late 2000 after months of decision making Loeka & I were packing our bags and making our way to live in Koln, Germany. We toured with Lou Bega, Captain Jack, No Angels, making guest appearances on the famed TV Total w/ Stephan Raab, The Disney Channel, TV Giga, and gracing the centerfolds of "Top of the Pops" magazine w/ our Summer Hit at number 5 making appearances on multiple radio stations througout Europe and just enjoying every minute of it.I remember this typical day of 3 concerts in 1 day in 3 different cities. We were suppose to ride a helicopter to the last concert, but there was no way that I was going to fly in a chopper, so our driver had to drive us 2 1/2 hours to the gig...oopps! I remember often times wondering what the heck we were doing singing "Come A'ama Crab" all the way in Europe, thinking these people don't even understand what were saying, but they didn't care, they just loved and appreciated our culture, our music and us. That's what it's all about! I guess sometimes you have to go thousands of miles away for people to appreciate what you have to offer to them.Well, we did our last show in Berlin and on this day Hip-Hop Icon "Aaliyah" had passed. This really hit home for both Loeka and I. The possibilities, the money, the fame...none of that mattered. Watching the news over and over, hearing it on the radio over and over just made us want to come home. After careful thought and consideration, we booked our flights to come back home. The date we landed back home? Midnight-September 11, 2001. (chicken skin?) =Imagine what we were thinking= Would you have gone back to Germany? I know everyone has their own opinions, but we knew that we didn't want to leave home for awhile after that. God has his plans, his reasons, his purpose for everyone & everything. We now perform with Damon Williams and own & operate our family owned recording studio. We currently have 4 artists signed to our record label and look forward to many more. I released a single in December 2005 and traveled to Japan for the 1st time to share my music from this album. I have done countless compilations, Infact, the latest will be released by Island Soul Entertainment that will feature all female artists of the Islands, entitled "PINK" and another with Neo's Production Jan.2008So, what's next for Pomai? I'm currently working on a documentary on my Life. You will find it quite interesting. You think you know? You have no idea. I will keep you updated right here!I'm about to debut 2 songs that I wrote in Berlin, Germany on Myspace. Why Myspace? I dunno, cause I want too. These 2 songs, I guarantee you, you've never heard before. The songs have been tucked away for almost 5 years, I cannot belive it. I think it's time to just let you hear it already and see if you like it. I've been contemplating if I should just put it up or not cause I always think, well, hey, maybe I'll just wait cause maybe I'll want to do something else with it, but you know what? That was like 5 years ago. Who knows, it'll probably be another year and I'll say the same thing to myself, so, what the heck? I was also gonna fix some things up in the recording, but nah, jus press :)It's no typical "A'ama Crab" I can tell you that much, however, "The Hula Song" is pretty catchy like our classic "A'ama" but not quite. I wrote this song in Koln (Cologne) Germany where Loeka & I lived for several months before heading over to Berlin. While in Koln, our music producer Thomas Blug (google him) he is an unbelievable guitar player and plays with the Best, but anyways, he wanted me to write a follow up to A'ama so this is how I came up with this Hula Song. The other song is a Christmas Song that I wrote in Berlin. Loeka and I did a huge week long Summer Special with Lou Bega and it was getting close to Christmas and I was feeling home sick and I started writing. This is how this "Christmas in Hawaii" song was born. These 2 songs I love so much. It has so much meaning and Life to it.Well, I hope I filled you inn enough. I'm sure I'll be back to update you. Thank you so much again for your love, support and encouragement. Blessings to you,Love, Pomai

Band Members:Ryan Hiraoka has been our bass player for almost 7 years. He has been there with us through everything. He's seen me looking good, looking fat, looking tired, looking ugly, acting ugly, okay...I'll just stop there. I think he missed like 2 shows in 7 years. You want to talk about committment and loyalty? That's Ryan.He is now a songwriter, producer and engineer. He has a solo project out, "Big Island Music" and a compilation as well. He is going to be releasing another solo project very soon. Don't you also have your bachelor's in Music Ryan? Oh, yeah and his own production company, "Rubbah Slippah" Geez, what can you not do? I'm Proud of you Man. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you and your music and I know everyone else does too.KEEP IT COMING!!!
Influences:I grew up listening to Gloria Estefan, Carole King, Sheryl Crow, Bette Midler, The Supremes, Doris Day, Aretha Franklin, Peggy Lee, Marvin Gaye, Shania Twain, Smokey Robinson, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Peaches and Herb, Mariah Carey ( Who didn't listen to Mariah, Whitney, Celine & Janet? ) No, I'm not old, I just love it! So many more Classic, Great artists that you hardly ever hear about nowadays. What can I say? Times have changed...but you NEVER FORGET!!!I remember when I saw Smokey Robinson in concert, Wow! I thought he was a cool, smoothe cat. He doesn't really have a powerful voice, but man oh man, I could watch him all day long. Did I mention that he's very attractive? Patti Labelle? Wowie, I seen her LIVE in Vegas. When she laid on the ground and kicked her shoes off? Oh my gosh, I've never seen anyone else do that before...still till today. Classic!Gladys Night? Amazing! "Midnight train to Georgia" was my favorite performance. I saw Mariah, Whitney & Gloria in concert in Oahu...just Fabulous. I didn't get to see Janet Jackson though, I will one day soon. I really want to watch Celine Dion. I think God placed a little Angel in her pipes cause Mary has this angelic, clean, smoothe, unbelievable sound, like no other and I know I'm gonna cry through the whole show. So, my goal by the end of this year...is to see Celine LIVE before she's done in Vegas. You know, there are so many artists, musicians, performers and singers that I have seen in Hotels, Clubs, Restaurants, Ships and different shows here in Hawaii and around the World that I have seen LIVE, some I can't remember their names, but I want you to know that I Learn so much from you, I Enjoy and Appreciate YOU! Thank you for inspiring me!Oh yeah, I like to watch J.Lo's videos, of course Beyonce is like extremely talented, Nicole S is pretty talented as well. Girl, if you ever read this, you should've just stuck with Kea (for your last name). ALICIA KEYS, you are the Bomb! I wish I listened to Uncle Iki at piano practice. Joss Stone, Nicole C. Mullen, Crystal Lewis, Darlene Zschech. I have too many Influences, I can't fit them all on here. There's nothing like a LIVE performance. This is where it's at. Okay, I have many more Influences, but I gotta fix up the rest of my page...I'll be back!
