MINNESOTA’S NEWLY CROWNED SISTER-QUEEN: MISS BLACK MINNESOTA 2008
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (September 12, 2007) – Talitha Joy Kolbow was crowned Miss Black Minnesota 2008 and will be representing the great state of Minnesota as she vies for the Miss Black USA crown at the Miss Black USA 2008 Scholarship Pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In May 2007, Kolbow graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a B.A. in African and African American Studies with an emphasis in Public Policy and Development. During her studies at the University of Minnesota, she also completed the Undergraduate Mellon Honors Program in Global Issues and studied international development in Ghana, West Africa for ten months through the Minnesota Studies in International Development program. She is twenty-four years old and is currently employed as an Office and Marketing Associate at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities’ Learning Abroad Center. Her ultimate career goal is to do long-term economic and community development work in East Africa.
Kolbow developed a passion for positively impacting communities of African descent during her early teens when she discovered her rich African heritage and history. Fittingly, her platform is “Project Unity for the African Diaspora.â€
The national Pageant will be held June 17th through June 23, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner will receive a full scholarship and promote her platform nationally. The Miss Black USA Pageant was established as a charitable organization in 1986. It seeks to provide aspiring young women of color with scholastic opportunities and to aid in fostering their holistic development. Please visit www.missblackusa.org for more information.
