TURNING ART INTO AN EMPIRE

About Me

Excerpt from Mic Deluxx Interview in"WORD ON THE STREETS MAGAZINE" WOTS: When did you first realize that Hip-Hop music was something that you wanted to pursue?DELUXX: Well I was pretty young when I first started writing. See my Dad writes poetry, so I would to sit back and read his pieces; watch him when he was writing and everything. And it's funny because he was the one who was copping all of the Hip-Hop that was coming into the house back in the day. So while other people’s parents was buggin' on them for listening to Hip-Hop, my dad was turning me on to the music. I mean he used to bump "The Message", "Looking For The Perfect Beat" all of them joints. So I guess at the time he understood that Hip-Hop was an extension of Soul & Funk.WOTS: What kind of process do you go through when creating music & selecting the songs for your albums?DELUXX: Well there's not really a "process". When it comes to music I pretty much just move with what I feel. I mean if I hear a beat & it doesn't jump out at me & grab me, I can't mess with it. The way that I look at it is... If the music doesn't move me how can I expect it to move other people?WOTS: What would you describe your style of Music as being?Deluxx: If I had to categorize my music I guess I would call it Progressive Hip-Hop with a Hardcore disposition. See when you look at the art form today it's like there's something missing. Don't get me wrong there's a lot of good stuff out there especially on the so-called "Underground" tip. But one thing I'm noticing is today that rugged, dusty sound is missing. It's almost like emcees be afraid to do raw Hip-Hop.WOTS: So would you say that you are trying to take it back to the "Golden Era"?DELUXX: I'm not really trying to take it back. I'm trying to move it forward and show people that we don't have to be afraid to be creative with Hip-Hop & let people know that there are still some options out there when it comes to this art form. I guess you could say I have a futuristic vision with old school sensibilities.

MIC DELUXXI AM AN EXTENSION OF THE CHAMPION SUN FAMILY.Champion Sun Is A Sonic Collective Consisting Of Mic Deluxx, Phobi 1 & Ranmecca. The Champion Sun Movement was originally established as a means to provide a positive creative outlet for a generation of disenfranchised Hip-Hop Heads. After recognizing an alarming trend of crumb-cake rappers infiltrating the game Champion Sun was assembled "In Order To Restore Order" to the beautiful art form that they love. This unit of B-Boy Soldiers is in the process of launching a counter-assault against the forces which seek to defile the art of Hip-Hop. This counter-assault will consist of the strategic dropping of a "3 Megaton Bomb-Ass" album. There will also be attacks led by Champion Sun ground forces throughout various cities. This attack will be aimed at stages, ciphers & sound sets across the country. There have already been reports of these attacks which consist of a wide array of bangin’ beats & a defiant display of lyrical prowess. PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION these attacks have been known to lead to masses of people erupting in loud screams & chants in conjunction to furious amounts of fist pumping. If you see or hear anything suspicious take the necessary precautions & move immediately... Towards the sound of the music.
