About Me

Patrick Howard --
[noun]:
A person of questionable sanity who starts their own cult
'How will you be defined in the dictionary?' at QuizGalaxy.comHello, my name is Patrick, and I am a music geek (further enhanced by my apparent manipulation of jargon, "musikus geekis")... furthermore I am even a geek within music circles, as I am a vocal musician (i am an haute-contre, which is a naturally high matured male early-music range for voice, but can do bass, baritone, tenor and countertenor) who specialises in early music and has a thing for early and contemporary music. Its a tragic existance, but full of fun and good times. I live in Forest Lodge in Sydney and spend my life making sandwiches and coffee. Its pretty tragic but not too bad. In my spare time I spend my life with the most incredibly amazing person to exist; Paul. :o) Oh, and I sing in a choir and revel in the choral nerdiness.

My Interests

MUSIC. Generally all types of music, but mainly 'classical', as it is commonly known. I also have interests in theatre, literature and to a lesser degree, art. Oh, and coffee; I make coffee, it's what I do.

I'd like to meet:

You ;o)

Music:

Where to begin? Okay, so essentially I am a musician specialising in voice and kinda composition, although thats more a personal enjoyment thing. I am a classical musician, yet hate the classical period (it is the only period in music I do not enjoy listening to). To be specific, some among many of my favourite composers include Górecki, Glass, Rachmaninov, von Bingen, Part, Edwards and Westlake. I also don't mind a bit of jazz. In fact Paul Grabowsky is my absolute favourite composer. I am a fan of all jazz, old school, new stuff, new arrangements of old school stuff. The only jazz I get iffy with is that horrible period when they tried to cross over with pop music and the abhorrance of 'Time After Time' by Miles Davis was born. Into the realm of conformist music (ie. Rock and/or Roll), Something for Kate are my absolute faves, although the experimental music of The Red Paintings is also very awesome indeed. I also LOVE the Australian band george and the Trip Hop ensemble Lamb, as well as A Perfect Circle and Antony and the Johnsons; that guy is a legend. Favourite artists include Katie Noonan who is my all, my everything, my escape. If I were straight I'd be stalking her. My favourite song of all time is Gorecki by Lamb. It is the ultimate in escapism. Dance, techno and house music are my secret shame.

Movies:

Okay, well all time favourites (classics) include The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins. More recent favourites include Cube (crap movie but the philosophy behind it is amazing and I love it), Girl Interrupted and The Ring (I've analysed the bejesus out of it for Extension English and I fell in love... such a fantastic composition, the techniques in it are awe-inspiring). And I also LOVE American Beauty... it is just a masterpiece, a true work of genius. Plus I am in love with the character Ricky Fitts. And then, there is Mean Girls; this doesn't really need to be mentioned, as it's pretty obvious how big an influence it is on me. Amelie is genius, it is a spectacular film! And Rent, it's good too. SHORTBUS is one of the best films I've ever seen... even if it is ever so slightly pornographic. I also have made a few rather abstract short films. Here is my most successful - "Checkmate" .. width="425" height="350" ..

Television:

Since I moved to Sydney I haven't actually watched TV... I don't really have time and we can't really work out our TV. However, having said that, Kath & Kim is the ultimate. There is no competition for that. However, other shows I do get a kick out of watching include The Panel, Spicks and Specks, All Saints (terrible, huh?), Desperate Housewives and Little Britain. And, of course... Big Brother. There should be group therapy for it, really, if it isn't a health problem, it should be. I do love Big Brother, though, it verges on obsession. Down with Australian Idol and other mindless 'talent' searches!

Books:

I love a good book. All time favourites include 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There' by Lewis Carrol. I also love 'The Deep Field' and 'Wrack' by James Bradley and 'In the Skin of a Lion' by Michael Ondaatje. In my tweenager years I lived on John Marsden. His book 'Checkers' still makes me cry. So sad. However, my most favouritist book ever is 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell -- I can be pretty political when I want to be. I am currently reading 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins; it is brilliant and has completely altered my perception of the world.

Heroes:

My real heroes include my friend Greta and Katie Noonan. And my old boss, Jen. And mum and dad are pretty awesome. Oh, and my old singing teacher.
