I graduated last June from BYU-Hawaii with a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science and emphasis in Pre-Med Biology. I'm living on the North Shore surfing and working as a Surgical Assistant at Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi.
One of my most significant ambitions in my life right now is training for the Honolulu Marathon coming up ..h. This is so important to me because I am doing it to raise money for one of my favorit charities, AccesSurf. AcesSurf Hawaii is a Non Profit Organization started to make Hawaiian beaches accessible for everyone and to provide therapeutic instruction for the advancement of Adaptive Surfing in Hawaii. This is the best program ever, it is completely volunteer and fully geared to serve others. It is a fun day at the beach for disabbled kids and handicapped people to surf and play in the water. Some individuals are war veterans that haven't been in the water for over 20 years and some have never ever had the experience of being in the ocean their whole lives. AccesSurf gives these individuals the joy of being in the water, the rush of riding a wave, the confidence of a surfer, and the safety of cautious and loving hands. Right now it is held the first Saturday of every month. This is the best day of the month for me, it is so fullfilling to see the joy and laughter of the kids faces as they ride tandem on a wave, and I know they look forward to this day 10 times as much as I do.
AccesSurf is a new and developing program,it needs funds in order to continue running, buying new equipment, and expanding. The program has goals to expand in frequency during the month and locations in order to best serve the most individuals. Beaches and adaptive surfing should be available every day to every individual every where in the world.
