A review of our cd "Vistas" (Surface of the Sun Records) from Tucson Weekly's Stephen Seigal
gHosT cOw is a rock band from Tucson, Arizona that plays original songs written by David Hall and Dave Prival. Founded by David Hall in 2005.
STUART OLIVER (music director of THE HUT) has said this about gHosTcOw: ”The voice and lyrics pronounce themselves with a presence that seems to invoke spirits from beyond, that with sly timbre, know this world better than we ever will - accentuating the bizarre, proclaiming the unchangeable. Why is Ghost Cow the essential Tucsonan rock band? They blend the ultimate sound-scape to a backdrop of sun-stroked urban heathenism, violent pervading nature, and the leathery coexistence with both in this crazed Sonoran landscape.
Here are some comments by FANS that heard us play live in Tucson and took the time to write some stuff about us:
(Thanks, people!!!)
"Sweaty lyrics immersed in sex, rattlesnakes, and restraining orders wrapped up in sultry licks of haunting melodies that will rock your boots off. gHosTcOw is redefining desert rock."
- Dennis Caldwell, artist, Tucson music fan
“I challenge you to really pin down Ghost Cow. Some say desert rock, but that doesn't quite get it for me. How about David Byrne meets The Doors with some B52's theatrics and some kick ass harmonica-driven blues thrown in for good measure? Whatever you want to call it, they are an engaging and creative band that gets better and better every time I see them, and I really like that they don't shy away from social statements either.
- Matt Goode, research scientist
gHosTcOw's name originated from a phrase overhead in conversation by the acttress Shelly Duval outside a womens restroom in a Dennys resturant outsided Palm Springs in 1999. Ms Duval used the term "ghost cow"in reference to the city of Tucson...
