My real name is José Victor Olivier Sterling, I’ve been playing drums for about 7 years.
BEGINNINGS
I started studying music at the age of 17 at the Dina Music of School in Santo Domingo, experimenting with different kinds of instruments like guitar, piano and bass, but drums were always my first love so I switched to drums and percussion with Dominican drummer Aristides Ortiz, till 2004. I find inspiration in the work of a lot of national and international drummers/percussionists like Vinnie Colaiuta, guy frometa, otoniel nicolas, dave weckl, Guarionex Aquino, Felix Garcia, Josh Freese and others.
GIGS AND VENUES
The different bands I’m lucky enough to have been a part of, had given me the chance to participate in many important gigs and festivals around the world like:
• 2nd ANivelDe.Com’s Music Festival (2004) (Santo Domingo)
In 2004 Mulligan got invited to this festival, one of the biggest festivals in the Caribbean, allowed me to share this experience with more than 20 bands of DR’s finest, performing along artists like Alex Ferreira, Auro&Clemt, Toque Profundo, Santuario and more.
· Encuentro Beach Surf Tournament (2006) (Cabarete)
Very exciting event at Cabarete Beach, DR, one of the most important beaches in the world for Windsurf. I had the privilege to perform in the main stage for 2 days with the band Mulligan providing live music during the competition.
· The MTV's Zona de Combate (2007) (Santo Domingo)
A huge event from MTV Latin America were I joined Nelson Poket and his band and shared stage with some other bands from around the globe like le*pop, Filtro Medusa, On and MTV Latin America award winner Panda.
· The Skatedra Music Festival (2007) (Costa Rica)
Annual ska festival with musicians from all over the world, were I shared stage with bands like Cultura Profetica, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Panteon Roccoco, and others performing live to more than 5,000 people with the band Pericles.
· Destiny Festival (2007) (Costa Rica)
Another huge festival with musicians from all over the world, were once again i had the opportunity to perform live with the band Pericles.
· Laney Amps Clinic, Clarion Hotel (2007) (Santo Domingo)
I had the privilege to perform along with 2 members of the band Rescate from Argentina; Marcelo Barrero (guitar) and Marcelo Tega (bass) in their Laney Amps Clinic.
• Messenger Mag Music Fest (2008) (Santo Domingo)
From over 130 bands that auditioned for this event, Turista got picked to perform at the final show at the hotel Jaragua of Santo Domingo, getting the second place.
· Latin Alternative Music Conference (2008) (New York City)
Joined the crew of the LAMC 2008 taking place at The Roosevelt Hotel, NYC, with Dominican singer Nelson Poket, having the opportunity to share this experience with many important Latin American artists like Julieta Venegas, Ximena Sariñana, Plastilina Mosh and many more.
OTHER GIGS
Ive been a part of the opening shows for international bands like Strung Out, Death By Stereo, Chana, Zoe and Belvedere.
INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Since 2007 I’ve been performing with an exceptional punk rock band from Boston, called PERICLES, these guys with their huge energy and love for music have released 2 albums and 1 EP already under the Chung-Ho Records label. Currently recording their third album.
PROJECTS AND RECORDINGS
I’ve performed and recorded with lots of bands in the past, exploring many styles of music, from fusion to electronic to punk. These are some of the bands I work/have worked with in the present/past:
NELSON POKET // Joined his band for the MTV Zona de Combate in 2007 and the LAMC 2008, also performed live at the Ace of Clubs @ NYC. We were also the opening show for dominican singer Chana @ Hard Rock Cafe Santo Domingo.
TURISTA // Recorded all the songs from their debut EP in 2008 and the single "Mas de mi" which hitted the #1 spot in X102-FM.
PILLO // Recorded the single "Imperio" (also #1 in the charts - X102-FM) and "Que puedo esperar".
PAOLA MORENO // Recorded all the songs for her debut album "Nuevo Plan" (2007). All her singles were #1 in the local charts.
MULLIGAN // Recorded all the songs for their debut album "Inflamable" (2004) and all the songs for their "Moral Animal" Ep (2007).
TABUTEK // I start performing with this legendary dominican band from the 90s in 2009.
EL METRO // Joined the band in 2008 for the jack daniels b-day party and the "el metro astro gnomico" concert.
DIEGO MENA // Performed with this Cassandra Award Nominee artist live in NYC 2008.
MABEL’S EXPERIMENT // Recorded her debut single “still goes on”.
MAIN ARTERY // Joined the band 2005-2006.
OLD SKOOL MOSES // I joined this guys for the “Mala Pasta Tour” in 2004.
FREAK POLLUTION // Joined the band in 2007.
CERVIX // Ska band from Florida, I recorded 4 tracks from their debut EP in early 2008.
COLLAGE // A new born project with former members of the band Cappou Sessions, I recorded their first single “hace ya” in the summer of 2008.
JAIME & MALA JUNTA // Fusion/Pop band from dominican republic, recorded 4 tracks for their first Ep in 2007.
VIC PICHARDO // Recorded the single “Carolina” for this artist in the summer of 2008.
BCUADRO // Recorded all the tracks for their debut album in 2008.
I have also worked with many other bands and musicians in the country such as Latin Grammy Nominee Alih Jey, 3 times Cassandra Awards Nominee Cerobit, Mala Junta, Los Tios, Kanky Lora, Allan Leschorn, Gnomico, Juango Davalos, Jose Alejandro Bordas , Alex "mala junta" Jimenez, Legacy, Slogan, and Agatha. And solo artists Joel Solano, Claudine Bono, Jaime Gonzalez, Mariam Suarez, Luis “El Terror” Diaz, Audrey Campos and more.
