Random Cartoons

About Me

Since 1998, Frederator Studios has been leading a new wave of cartoon creators with Random Cartoons. What’s an Random cartoon, you ask? It’s a funny, seven-minute, character-driven cartoon featuring kids or kid-like characters (we make these shorts for Nickelodeon). The philosophy is simple--We believe the best way to establish a star is to begin with the very best short cartoon possible, and not to get hung up on all the baggage of a more traditionally-developed pilot.

Best thing is, this method seems to be working! Dexter's Laboratory, The Fairly Odd Parents, Chalk Zone, and My Life As A Teenage Robot are only some of the series that began as one of the 100 shorts in Random. By keeping the format seven minutes, it allows each show creator to focus on what is most important in their cartoon: the characters.

And speaking of show creators...we love 'em! Random Cartoons is about making a short the way the creator wants it--not the way a bunch of Starbuck's sippin', never drawn since kindergarten, over thinkin' Development execs want to make it. Why do we do it this way? Well...because we can't draw. And because we like cartoons, that's why.
