I can get interested in just about anything... but some things I especially like are: WORDS and wordplay, laughing (with and at), creativity in its various manifestations, information, intense sensory experiences, details, oddities of scale (and sometimes hue), live music, good conversation, bacon, dancing, TRAVEL, Modern art/design/architecture, FOOD (!) – especially if it isn’t good for me (see: bacon), the humor of the absurd, diversity and breadth in beauty, Wikipedia, taking naps, correcting your grammar, water (swimming in it, bathing/showering in it, drinking it -- even looking at it), experimenting with digital photography, making lists (see?), Venn diagrams, having fun (or getting fun stuff) for cheap – or better yet, for free!, monkeys and other nonhuman primates, highbrow/lowbrow comedy, bacon, random statistics, alternative and/or altered perspectives, affection, escapism, the history and taxonomy of the universe and everything contained within it, fractals, accuracy, hedonistic sloth, penguins, butt jokes, dolphins, bacon, Flamenco, smoke and vapor, waging intellectual war against the obstinately ignorant (trying to rid the world of “stupid†one error at a time), contemporary literary critical theory, “raging hoteys,†Islamic art and architecture, skiing, sociopolitical debate, things that smell like lavender, overanalyzing everything, bacon, sexy electronic gadgets, semi-wishing I were a DJ, German cars, Khmer and Mayan ruins, weirdly colored flowers (and cauliflower!), plants and botanical gardens, armchair psychopharmacology, NCAA March Madness, being nostalgic for 5 minutes ago, bacon, organic fruit, languages & linguistics, fashion and clothing and girly crap, kicking ass, things that kick ass (like bacon), religious theory and anthropology, the sociology of communication, doodling, stretching, circling things in catalogs that I will never buy, daydreaming about vacations I won't be able to afford for years, and other aspirational activities that quell my would-be shopping addiction. And bacon.
Here, it used to just say, "old friends and people who don't suck." For a time, that was enough.
Then I wrote a very, very long rant explaining who I will and won't approve and why. Not surprisingly, this did not actually do anything to stop the creepy random friend requests.
So I got rid of the multiparagraph explanation and boiled it down to this: if you've actually ever met or interacted with me, I'll approve you. (If it's not immediately obvious why I should know you, please send me a message!) Otherwise, I probably won't.
Anyway, I'd also like to meet Paul Rudd... yes yes, I sure would. Oh, and the Wilson brothers... they're my Olsen twins. (They're all on my "list," so it's ok!)

The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-Time (Mark Haddon), A Clockwork Orange (Anthony Burgess), Flatland (Edwin Abbott), The House of Sleep (Jonathan Coe), The Consolation of Philosophy (Boethius), I absolutely love just about anything by David Foster Wallace, Francesca Lia Block, Mina Loy, and Geoffrey Chaucer. I'm also a fan of Jonathan Lethem, Jeffrey Eugenides, Sylvia Plath, David Sedaris, George Saunders, and Elizabeth Wurtzel, among others. Honestly, though, I'm one of the worst-read English major-cum-writer/editor types you'll ever meet -- these days I tend towards Wikipedia and The New Yorker.
Elaine Benes & George Costanza, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mina Loy, Dorothy Parker, Beavis, Gertrude Bell, Joan Miro, Snoop Dogg, U Thant, Edie Sedgwick (more of a muse than a hero), Yul Kwon (winner of Racist Survivor), David Bowie (just... because)
