About Me

Tom Newbold began drumset lessons at the age of seven. After graduating high school in 2000, Tom studied contemporary percussion, drumset, and 20th Century music theory at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After UCSB, Tom took a year off and then moved here to San Diego where he just finished his MM in Percussion Performance at San Diego State University; studying both drumset with Mike Holguin and Percussion with John Flood. He is now a member of the faculty at SDSU, Carmel Valley Middle School, and the Youth Arts Academy of San Dieguito. Tom also teaches private lessons, tutors in all areas of music theory, and is performing as much as he can book. "I am interested in playing new music as well as old and in any style, but what interests me most is playing with people who are professional and show up ready to play first/talk later." ..
