About Me

Marcus Andrews began playing the piano at the age of 6, studying first with Yvonne Dinwiddy, a student of one of his favourite composers, Nicholas Medtner. He continued his studies with Simon Young at Trinity College of Music on a Junior Exhibition from West Sussex CC and then for his BMus. Studies were completed at the University of Connecticut with Neal Larrabee where Marcus was a Graduate Assistant Accompanist, was awarded the Evelyn Bonar Storrs scholarship and made a member of the National Music Honors Society Pi Kappa Lambda. In July 2001 he took part in the International Beethoven Masterclass at Positano, Italy, given by John O'Conor under the auspices of the Fondazione Culturale Wilhelm Kempff and has been a bursary student at Dartington International Summer School. He is winner of the Trinity College of Music Trust Silver Medal for Keyboard, the first Jaques Samuel Pianos Trinity College of Music Prize, the Harold Clarke Prize and the TWIYCA Accompanist Prize.Marcus is a busy soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist and teacher, having performed in the USA, Italy, Germany, France, Bermuda and the Lebanon. His concerto repertoire includes Mozart K271 and K459, Beethoven 1, 3 & 5, Chopin E minor and Rachmaninoff 2 and he has performed with the St Paul's Sinfonia and Andrew Morley, the Orchestergesellschaft Weil am Rhein, the National Scout and Guide Symphony orchestra and the orchestra of Junior Trinity. He gives solo and chamber music recitals at festivals and music societies across London and southern England with recent performances at St Martin in the fields, St James' Piccadilly, Letchworth Music Club, the Alfriston Festival, the Appleby Festival, Sidmouth Music Club, Bognor Regis Festival, CODA (Tunbridge Wells), Epping Music Society and Radlett Music Club. Regular chamber partnerships include The Karrilon Trio - flute, oboe and piano - with which he has given a number of world premiere performances; Wissam Boustany, flute; Ruth Beedham, cello; Susan FitzGerald, flute; Maya Sapone, soprano; and Emily Pringle, violin. Marcus also gives occasional peformances with the London Orpheus Choir and Trinity College of Music Chamber Choir, for whom he is rehearsal pianist.
