I Only Add People Who I Know Personally.

About Me

If you want to be my friend, talk to me. If you just want to add someone, myspace.com/thefamilybandwithmatthew. we're always looking for new friends.

i also love really really bad puns.

My Interests

(personas)gente. musica (tocando, cantando, escribiendo, escuchando), leyendo, boliche, "pool", hablando con todos. y español.

I'd like to meet:

anyone who can tell me a pun so horrid i will laugh and groan simultaneously.

Music:

lots of folk and blues from mr. Johnson to mr. Oberst, and pretty much everything in between. i dig pretty much anything from the sixties as long as it wasn't pure whitebread. the beach boys, all the brit invasion bands, the haight/ashbury groups and artists, motown, CREEDENCE, most of the harder rock bands that went on into the 70s. less stimulating though ultimately more meaningful interests include Davis, Coltrane, Mingus, Django, Monk, lady Day(?), Fahey, Johann Sebastian, Ludwig Van, Wolfgang Amadeus and pretty much anything baroque.

most recently i am enraptured with a band called dr. dog and a singer named Tom Brosseau.

also, tons and tons of music that is unacceptable to my social groups, but i love anyways. if you'd like to pre-judge me based on those, toooooo fuckin' bad.

Movies:

anything truly character-driven. plots are nice, but are meaningless for me if the characters have no flavor.

Television:

television is a one-way medium that exists for three purposes:
advertising, entertainment, and education.
there is little to no interaction.
everything must be accepted or rejected.
I am only interested in education, so when I watch television, i do my best to learn advertising, learn entertainment, and learn/learn from education.
therefore, it's not worth an ounce of our time to discuss without an attempt to educate.
i'd prefer to find stronger common interests with fellow human than shared tastes in entertainment.
i see it as similar to spending our time discussing the positive aspects of German National Socialism.

on second thought, i've had that conversation more than once. i'd have to say it was at the very least educational.

Books:

Jordan said: "true literature is philosophy disguised as fiction". so i dig most things that fall under that category. anything that can teach me how to be a better musician.

Heroes:

(see the "who i'd like to meet" section.)

beyond that, the salt of the earth. because the rest are still trying to find their place amongst others.
