Han Shot First

About Me

"Though it's hard to ever touch "The Rolling Stones", HAN SHOT FIRST definitely comes close in music, vibe and eclectic styling." IME critic Janis Tate.

Jamey McGaugh and Matthew Rankin met as actors working together in Hilton Head, SC in 1998. After a couple of different band mutations, Han Shot First was formed in 2002. Since then, HSF has played numerous bars/clubs in NYC including: Arlene's Grocery, Sin-E, Crash Mansion, The Living Room, The Lion's Den, Continental, Kenny's Castaways, CBGB's Lounge, The C-Note, The Alphabet Lounge and The Pussycat Lounge to name a few. Over the years, the line-up has continued to evolve (the band is now a 6 piece, including keyboards) and the band has tightened into a sinewy, muscular force to reckoned with. Their sound is as funky as the junk you suck from a crawfish head, and as raw as your ass, when they're done spanking you.
HSF has been working their way out of the NYC metro area with recent performances at Haverford College in Haverford, PA, Whiskey Dix in Philadelphia, and L'Esco in Montreal, with future shows scheduled in Nashville, TN, and Richmond, VA.In 2004, HSF participated in NYC's HOWL Festival, and was selected to play in Guitar World's 2004 M.E.A.N.Y. Festival. Industry showcases include performances for Halt Records, and Columbia in January '05. HSF has worked with numerous production/booking companies in the NYC area including Lo-Fi, Original Sessions, GNYC-TV, and Indie Music Explosion. HSF has a "no apologies" approach to their music and their shows. HSF puts on a high energy, loud, old school rock show and everyone involved, especially audiences, have a great angst free evening of butt shaking rock music.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.han-shot-first.com
Band Members: Jamey McGaugh (lead vocals) Matthew Rankin (vocals/guitar) Bob D'Haene (vocals/guitar) Mike Mattice (drums) Amanda Donnelly (bass) Dan Siegler (keyboards, dancing)
Influences: The band's influences are many, but a few bands/artists stand out as VERY important to HSF: The Rolling Stones, Little Feat, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Police, The Meters, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Allman Brothers.
Sounds Like: The Black Crowes and The Rolling Stones have a baby with The Meters and Stevie Ray Vaughan. All in all we have a pretty unique thing going on. I know a lot of people say that about their band, but no one has ever been able to put their finger on us yet. See us live, and you be the judge.
