About Me

Laura was a choirgirl. She faithfully sported a kilt and a white blouse, a navy blue vest and black mary janes under a cassock and surplus every Sunday until she was thirteen...she learned every hymn in the book and every anthem, she pretended to understand German and Latin, French and Italian- and then she decided that it was weird to go to the theatre on Saturday night and to the cathedral on Sunday morning; so she left. It was only the theatre for a long while. But the theatre is fickle. Someone else always decides when you get to perform. Someone else decides how much you can sing, what you'll wear, how the posters will look... Laura wanted more control, and she wanted to be self-sufficient. So she asked for a guitar. In typical Woody fashion, it took a birthday and a Christmas before the guitar wish came true... and when it did, she was the proud owner of a little Maria Von Trapp guitar, perhaps "proud" is not the right word, honestly, it made her self-conscious. She stole away to the guitar store and exchanged it for a larger, albeit cheaper guitar, but one that wouldn't make her look like someone who would make dresses from curtains. And then she set about to play it...Two years and one lost roomate later, Laura had her first original song. A little sappy, definitely trite, and she couldn't sing it without bursting into tears- but it was hers... A brief collaboration followed and Laura learned too many lessons for one summer. She left Chicago with a degree, a student loan, and a shiny new red guitar and landed in San Francisco. Now, some people find poverty and loneliness inspiring...Laura didn't. So after almost two years she moved south, to Los Angeles where sunshine, friends, and a happy home were waiting. But there was still something missing. she decided to move to Paris for at least a year, a year that would(hopefully) be filled with inspiration, perspective, and the time to write it all down. Stay tuned for Laura's further adventures...
