About Me

I am currently a medical doctor at Forks Community Hospital in Forks, WA. I have been practicing medicine for quite some time now, it is my greatest passion. To gain some understanding of who I am, you must get to know some of my history. It is a story like no other, and without the events that have taken place in my past, I would not be the individual that I am today. In fact, I wouldn't even exist.
"He was young, he was blond… and he was handsomer than any movie star I'd ever seen."
I am originally from London, England. I was born sometime after the 1640's. I do not know the exact date of my birth; time was not kept as accurately in that period. My father was an Anglican Pastor as well as a persecutor of Roman Catholics. He was also a strong believer in the existence of witches and vampires. You must understand that during this time, things that many consider merely myths and legends today were a part of everyone's reality in the 1600's, and were widely feared. My father led raids all across London in hopes to capture and demolish these monsters and rid the world of the evil he saw in them. In time, I was placed in charge of these raids, and although I was reluctant to be apart of it, I followed through for my father. I eventually discovered a large coven of vampires living in hiding within the sewers of the city. The day of this discovery came to be the most significant day of my existence, for it was on this day that my life ended, and my new life (if you can call it that) began. In my attempt to capture one of the vampires, he turned on me to attack and then left me bleeding in the street. Why he did not kill me, I am not entirely sure. I am quite certain it was unintentional, for I was not the only victim that night and I believe the vampire was ravenous and weak; enough so to be careless.
At the age of 23, I became one of them; the very monster that my father dedicated his life to hunting for and destroying. I knew I could never face him again. I was appalled by what I had become; appalled by my nearly uncontrollable thirst for human blood. So much so that I hid myself away from the world and welcomed starvation. But when this attempt, along with numerous others, to destroy the horrible creature I had become, failed, I gave into the thirst and attacked a herd of dear. It was then that I decided if I could not destroy myself, I would not succumb to the dark and vile tendencies of their kind. I realized I could sustain myself by feeding off of animals instead of humans. There was hope in this new awareness and over the course of the next two centuries, I was able to develop an immunity to the smell of human blood. I dedicated my endless time to advancing my education, and formed a strong interest in medicine. I believe that if I can use my abilities help save the lives of others, I may gain at least a small amount of pennance for what I am. But I digress, I later moved to Italy to further my medical studies. There I met a coven called the Volturi: Aro, Marcus, and Caius. They seemed to be extremely intelligent and much more civilized than the others I had grown to know in England. I stayed with them for a while, but they could not understand my beliefs and thought that they needed to cure me of this apparent misdirection. They continuously tried to convince me to drink human blood, so I eventually left them for America (the "New World"). I was determined to find others like myself, and hoped I would find them here in this promising new land. In America, I was able to begin living a more human lifestyle, and started my work as a doctor. I was pleased to discover that I could live amongst the humans undetected, as long as I did not stay in one place for too long.
Edward, my first companion and friend & Esme, my one and only love. My life.

I was living in Chicago when the Spanish Influenza hit. I was treating a young man by the name of Edward Mason. He had already lost his mother and father to the influenza and was nearing his own death as well. Just before his mother's passing, she begged me to do everything in my power to save her son. My own loneliness combined with the knowledge of his mother's wishes drove me to change him, and Edward became my much needed companion. In 1921, Edward and I moved to Wisconsin. While working as a doctor there, I received a patient named Esme Platt. I remembered treating her previously while living in Ohio. She was just a young girl at the time, and I had mended a broken leg for her. My second encounter with her was due to a failed suicide attempt. I was heartbroken to see the terrible turn her life had taken and so I changed her to save her. We soon fell in love and married. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Rosalie, the beautiful, tenacious one & Emmett, the strong and courageous one.
In the following years, I found and changed a young woman named Rosalie Hale who was also on the verge of death. I did it not only to save her, but also with the hope that she could be a suitable mate for Edward. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be, and Rosalie resented her new life. Shortly thereafter, she found a young man in the mountains named Emmett McCarty. She brought him back to me in severe condition from a bear attack with the request that I change him, and as I could do nothing else for him, I agreed. Emmett seemed to welcome his transformation much more openly than the others had, and was pleased with his new power and strength. Rosalie and Emmett immediately fell in love, and later married.
Not too long after Emmett had joined our family, we were visited by a spunky, young vampire by the name of Mary Alice Brandon and her intriguing mate, Jasper Whitlock. Alice had "seen" our coven's unique lifestyle with her special ability to see the future, and she and Jasper had made the decision to join our family. I, of course, welcomed them both with open arms.
Alice, the addition we could never do without & Jasper, the true heart of our family.

Each of my family members, in their own time, came to appreciate my hurt-no-human belief system, and adopt it as well. It takes an enormous amount of self control and discipline, and I am so very proud of them all for embracing this lifestyle with such avidity. They are all truly remarkable, and they mean the world to me. Esme and I have always thought of Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, Alice and Jasper as our own children, and we love them as if they were our own.
