About Me

Dragons Power Up! is a band that makes music with two guitars, a bass, and a drumkit.
Mike Ries, Mike Coyne, and Chris Tures started playing together in 2005 and were joined shortly after by Dan Ries.
They are currently working on their second full-length album, tentatively due to be self-released in summer of 2008. Their first album, "This Way To Gunshire..." is considered to be an underground classic; so far underground in fact, that all proof of this claim has melted, given the proximity to the center of the earth. Not any old album, but the first in a trilogy - or "thrillogy." It can be gotten online, right here:

WHAT SOME FOLKS SAID ABOUT "THIS WAY TO GUNSHIRE (2006)"
"This is balls-to-the-wall, no-bullshit, real rock and roll" - Pulse of the Twin Cities
"With a serpentine, low-fi sound coiled round a flaming pile of reverb sits Dragons Power Up!, a Minneapolis-based beast of a band with one mission - to rock." - Perfect Porridge
"This Way to Gunshire…, is testament to their fun, distorted, rock-and-roll view of the world. Consisting of enough twists and turns to get even the most gallant knight lost on his way to save a princess" - Lunch Of Champions
"Obnoxious dance punk meets garage rock in some sort of slutty alleyway in which these genres finger fuck each other into oblivion....To be fair, I totally didn’t give this band a fair shake but fuck them—they’re punk rock they should be able to bounce back well enough." - Smother.net
That one isn't positive, but awesome, no?

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: dragonspowerup.com
Band Members: Mike Coyne, Dan Ries, Mike Ries, and Chris Tures

Influences: Coyne listens to "Myxomatosis" before every show. Chris gets mad when Dan steps on his KMFDM tapes. Ries is currently borrowing Chris' Nuggets I & II boxes. Dan made the band listen to Deerhunter until they liked it on a roadtrip to Mankato, then they put on Otis Redding. You can hear "Tabla Beat Science" blasting from Coyne's car from 2 blocks away. Fats Waller was unknown to the band until Ries played them his record. Chris, one day, hopes to cover a Sleater-Kinney song, but probably to no avail. Dan doesn't understand why the Microphones don't have a bigger following. They all love the Beatles for different reasons and think that Scott Stapp is silly.
Sounds Like: Milking the cranial harp.
Record Label: Quanda (self-release)
Type of Label: None
