Candle

About Me

Candle was a dream originally envisioned in the spring of 1996. At that time Darby began to compose various pieces built on the idea of the feelings that could be provoked in the individual listener. It was his intention to stir up the true emotions through the medium of music and philosophical poetry. Like a candle burning brightly, he wanted to show the contrast of light and dark in the greyest area of human existence, that of the soul. This abstract, badly defined aspect of human existence needed to be shown in its true light so that the hosts of humanity could perhaps find their true purpose in life. Through the soul one can find the pathways to all of one's dreams. Originally located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on the eastern bank of the mighty Red River, Darby is a student of music, philosophy and spirituality. He spent his time searching for Absolute Truth and for the greater meaning to human existence. Winnipeg, he had found, was the ideal place for the beginnings of this search. Located on the western edge of the ancient Canadian Shield and at the beginnings of the great central prairies, geographically Winnipeg is a great cross roads of culture and accomplishment. A small city whose culture is diverse as well as deeply rooted in its history, it was the logical place to begin to delve into the greater mysteries of life. But in the fall of 2000, Darby moved to the city of Kenora on the northern shore of beautiful Lake of the Woods. Here he has found beauty, peace and a way of life so much more conducive to his artistic and philosophical aspirations. From Kenora, he will send his music out into the world to be devoured and criticized by the media and the masses, a constant meter to measure the accuracy of Darby’s expressions and the connectivity of each song. Since the Fall of 2000, Darby has spent his time connecting with Kenora’s diverse musical & performance scene. He has helped put together the local musical television show 807 Back Beat formerly airing on Norcom Community Channel 10. 807 Back Beat featured local independent artists from North Western Ontario as well as performers passing through the region. The show has now been canceled but its spirit lives on within the Scene it helped to fuel. For a time, Darby sang with local Classic Rock cover band Ruff Edges doing numerous shows in Kenora including Music For Miracles 2004 and opening for the Stampeeders at Harbourfest 2004. But Darby left Ruff Edges in the winter of 2005 to focus on solo performances. Philosophically speaking, Darby is an individualist believing in the power of the human mind. Knowing that the mind, which is little understood, is capable of amazing things, he actively seeks to open up his mind to every possibility so as to discover the ultimate powers of the human brain, those which have laid dormant since the beginnings of time. He believes that only an open heart and open mind are capable of achieving philosophical and spiritual enlightenment. It is because of this belief that he ventures to open the minds and hearts of all those who wish to experience his music, not only for their personal benefit, but for the benefit of mankind as a whole.
