Primarily starting in Punk bands then moving to rock and blues Matt was captured by the sound and feel of the guitar, there's no other way of getting that sound. Matt later enrolled in at Boston College of Further Education to study Music In Practise. Under the watchful eye of Ray Fenwick(Spencer Davis Group, Ian Gillan Band), it was during the following two years Matt developed his Jazz guitar playing ability and started appreciating music as a whole adding new genres of music to his repertoire.
Matt joined the band Counterpoint a few months after starting the course with Ben SmithSam Janickyj, Sean Taylor and Dave Benassi. After developing their style they began gigging and recording around the Lincolnshire area and still gigging with bands and ensembles for the course.
After graduating college with a Triple Distinction, Matt took a year out to work as he wanted to study guitar at a specialist school.
During his year out, Matt was asked to join the Lincolnshire Jazz and Rock Academy working with Simon Bates (Lulu, Billy Ocean, Jamie Cullum), Paul Harry Harris (Simply Red, David Bowie), Dave Ital (Craig David, Sugarbabes), Dave Swift (Tom Jones, Jools Holland, George Benson) and Chris Dagley (Eric Clapton, Chaka Khan, Donny Osmond).
This was a great experience and Matt worked in the Rhythm and Blues band who then went on to perform at The Embassy Theatre in Skegness.
After successfully being accepted into theBrighton Institute of Modern Music (Bimm)with high priority, he moved to Brighton with fellow Bimm student and ex-bandmate Ben Smithand started practising for the years ahead.
Matt is currently into his first year of the Foundation Degree at Bimmand is also now playing with Those Crazy 88's , an unbelievable rock band, you must see these guys live!
Matt also loves to play the blues and is now concentrating on getting great blues tones and thinks more about improvising with a motif-to-motif method and creating parts that develop and work well with the song.
Matt can perform in Blues, Pop, Rock, Funk and Jazz genres and spends any free time learning songs, watching footage of guitar players or creating other tones and experimenting with effects pedals for Those Crazy 88s
