NubianGraphics.com South Park Legend! Born March 16, I was the first of five children. My full name is, Solomon Ray Scott, Jr., given to me by my dad and grandmother. From birth I have been considered a "musical genius." I now play four different instruments that include; drums (percussion and auxillary), the lead guitar, the bass guitar, and the piano (keyboard). I've even played on the trumpet in the marching band at Kashmere Senior High School, Houston, TX. Oh, and let me just say for the record, I do sing too! (in case you didn't already know) My first love and first imstrument was the set drums. My mother would find me tapping out rythms on the coffee-table, at age three. It was then brought to the attention of my late grandmother, who bought my first drumset. Back in the day, a PEARL drumset costed about 4 to $500.00 (full set) Now, they're about $5,000.00! As time grew on, I began to teach myself the basic rudiments of the drum. I was very consistent on learning perfect timing, and what it really meant to "stay in the pocket." By five years old, I found another interest, my dad's guitar. Now the story behind that one, I thought, was pure meanest on his part. He came home from work one evening and found one of the strings broke. My sisters played with dolls, so guess who that left. That's right! Me! Anyway, it happen two more times after that, and my dad said that my punishment would be to learn how to play the guitar. It was not very easy at first. In fact, it was definitely blood, sweat , and tears. I have never been one to quit anything, so I took like a soldier, and learned how to play. I composed my first song at the age of 8, using the chords G, C, and D. Meanwhile , I still didn't know how to read music, nor had I been given any professional lessons. I started to be more involved in my music ministry at church, which allowed me to become far more bolder, and more comfortable in my crafts. I also started to pick notes on the piano at age 8, which now still is important in my chording structures for the guitar. The piano is what I call, the instrument that brings out my "smooth side." I enjoy playing the keyboard more than the standard piano. I guess it's because of the variety of sounds. Well, the bass kinda came natural to me because of the likeness to the lead guitar. Plus, I know some basic scales that go with the chords. I am really a lover of music. It's really my lifestyle. My journey with music still continues today. There have been good days and bad, but struggle only brings gain!! I often go back to my high school days, and reflect on how, eventhough, I was not excepted to H.S.P.V.A. because I could'nt read music, I never did give up on my career goals. I auditioned again at Kashmere High, (also big-ups to Mr. William Portis), and was excepted! Get this though, I auditioned for the drums, but when he heard me play the guitar, he was elated with my knowledge of the guitar. Later on, I was taught how to read guitar tablature, and that gave me sight picture of what I was actually playing. If I could give any advice, it would be, never give up, always stay committed with what God has blessed you to have. Eventhough you may be rejected, there can always be another opportunity to shine. I've seen so much, just in the music field alone. I sang the National Anthem at my millitary graduation at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. I've also sung and played at the BPCCA Rodeo, (Bill Pickett's Colored Cowboy Association), in Humble, TX. I've met numerous celebs (entertainment & sports that include: Billy D. Williams, Shirley Murdock, Leon, Moses Malone, Nick VanExel, Damien Jones, Mary Griffin, Lil' Mo, Lenny Williams, Carl Thomas, Slim Thug, J Xavier, and so many, many more. Last, but certainly not least, I know God, who's first in my life! He deserves all the praise and glory for anything i have ever accomplished. THANK YOU LORD 4 ALL THINGS!!!
