Gabriela Luna is a multi-faceted performer, percussionist, independent artisan and educator. Born in Mexico City, she began her performance career in 1989 playing extensively with Mexican singers and contemporary songwriters in festivals and venues throughout her native country.
Gabriela lived in Chicago, USA from 1997 to 2001. During that time she played with Orchestra of the Americas, Primal Connection All Percussion Ensemble, Brazilian guitarist and singer Paulinho Garcia, the all female jazz band She, Sones de Mexico Ensemble Chicago, Orquesta LaTira with bassist and arranger Ben Willis, and her own project, Hoy Son, a Mexican music quartet that captivated audiences.
As a teaching artist Gabriela worked with Northeastern Illinois University, The Chicago Children's Museum and Pros-Arts Studio among others teaching percussion, traditional Mexican dance and paper arts in the Chicago Public Schools. From 1999-2005 Gabriela was endorsed by Mountain Rythym Drums, Canada.
She toured Europe and the US with Mexican singer Lila Downs in 2002. Since 2005 Gabriela has been living in Mexico City where she has participated in interesting Mexican music projects like Zazhil and Tonana. During these years she has also been learning silversmithing and jewelry design.
