Lights, camera, music. With all the planets of the universe, Venus seems to be the one that stands out the most in the universe. Born in Dayton, Ohio, DJ Venus grew up in the 80's with all it's glitz and glamour. "I remember when I was 5 I used to listen to Laid Back - White Horse over and over." said Venus. "I was in love, the beat, the groove, the sound. When I turned 9, I went to buy my first record, it was Grace Jones - I'm Not Perfect."
DJ Venus' career as a DJ all started 7 years ago when he first came out to the gay scene. "All I remember was the day I went to Celebrity and saw a DJ above the dance floor with a blue Mohawk named Miss Hill spinning some fierce tunes." Venus said. "After I worked up enough courage to ask what songs were playing, I started building up my collection by going to various music sites and buying music."
One day, Hill came up to me and said, "You're going to be a DJ and I'm going to show you how." After months of fine tuning and learning the ropes of the scene, a very young DJ did guests spots and then regularly appeared at Jessie's Celebrity. He remained with Celebrity as their Resident DJ until it's close in early 2006. "Celebrity was a great place to work for me and I met all sorts of fabulous people." Venus said. It also opened all sorts of opportunities for DJ Venus in the future. After being discovered there during his first years, he then appeared at more venues and events. In 2002, he was asked to spin his first big event which to this day continues in the Dayton, Ohio area called Masquerage, which benefits the AID Resource Center. DJ Venus stated, "I enjoy doing things that give back to the community and people when I can. Something that huge I don't mind one bit to donate my time to. To me it just feels right to give back what the public and my fans gave to me, devotion." Shortly after Masquerage, Venus was booked at other venues in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Kentucky. His last great accomplishment was spinning for the Fall 2005 Hair Expo at the Kentucky Convention Center last year.
In 2006, after being discovered by Masque, DJ Venus was named one of Club Masque's Resident DJ's. "Masque is a phenomenal club with phenomenal people and they've been extremely welcoming and hospitable." Venus said. "I look forward to serving a long time at this fine establishment and hope that this will be one of many accomplishments to come. I enjoy spinning music so much and enjoy what energy I can pass off to my crowd. Without the support of my boyfriend, close friends, and my fans I would be nothing. I'm grateful for each day I can continue to entertain you.
In early 2007, DJ Venus' year was brought in with a bang as he was named "DJ of the Year" at the annual Masquie Awards at Club Masque in Dayton, Ohio. He has also had the honor of performing to a packed house at Axis Nightclub in Columbus, Ohio where he headlined an event for the bar and Ohio Gay Hockey Association, as well as produced his newest demo for massive distribution that night. Venus stated, " Since I've gotten back to spinning last year, everything's been in full swing and I love it! I only hope to continue to grow and continue to be this prosperous for the whole entire year and beyond!"
DJ Venus can currently be seen in the Dayton, OH area at Club Masque. He's also accepting bookings and traveling to other bars in the area and state! To find out when or where you can see him, check this profile or http://www.djvenusonline.com
