Kathryn Butler - Composer

MySpace Layouts - myspace layoutsKathryn Butler was born in Plymouth in 1982, brought up in Barnet and studied music at Middlesex University.Kathryn's love of music stems from an artistic mother, a music loving Father, Grandfather. At school Kathryn was always active in music, playing the Clarinet, Saxophone, Violin, Flute, Piano and Guitar in various ensembles and orchestras and writing duets, songs and big band arrangements. It was not until university however that Kathryn really discovered a love and passion for composition studying with Dr. Francois Evans and Dr. Peter Fribbins, gaining a first in the subject and winning Middlesex University's Turton Prize for Composition.Kathryn received a scholarship to complete a Masters in composition at the Guildhall college of Music and Drama in September 2006 where she is studying with Dr. Paul Newland. She is currently completing a term abroad in Den Haag, Netherlands studying with various teachers at the Koninklijk Conservatorium.Kathryn's String quartet Muldovia was performed by the Bronte Quartet on January 29th 2006 at the London Chamber Music Societys Venue The Conway Hall and has had various perfromacnces at the Guildhall School of music and drama, The Place, City of London festival and Highbury Jazz festival.Kathryn is a keen collaborator working with choreographer, visual artists and film.As well as Composing, Kathryn currently teaches Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Music theory and Composition in Schools and privately throughout North London.Kathryn also like to cook and drive her Mini cooper (old stlye, British racing green!!)
