About Me

www.richardkolp.comRK: Your tunes are in jazz rock arena of music. Could you explain why you decided to play jazz rock and not some other more popular style of music???CMJ: Well I'm sorry to say, if you look at todays new music it just sucks! When I heard fusion it was on a video of The Brecker Brothers. When I heard this style of music I said "this is what I want to play for a living!" Fusion to me is more than Jazz Rock its having the ability to be free and open as a musician and blend any style of music together and make music. It also gives you ability to write and play any style music you want without a problem, because there are so many styles that are used in this gender of music. It seems like with todays music there's no originality, creativity or even talent. There's no room for the musicians, everything is just programmed with computers. Half the producers and writers and even the artist themselves just dont know anything about music or where anything comes from. I find that there are just too many rappers and singers just doing the same thing that everyone else before them did. It seems that many are doing the same-thing for worst or better and just feel as if there's so much out there waiting for them but yet they are just a star in their own eyes doing what millions of other people are doing around the world (So how could there be room for all these artist, You Dig?). RK: Wow! How you stated that couldnt have been said better by myself or the jazz fusionists of the world. Programming has always driven me crazy. Drum loops, key loops, bass loops and it goes on and on. I always feel cheated and depressed when I hear this kind of music. To me its play it or forget it. Richard Knowles said real music always finds a way. I agree.
