About Me

Brooklyn-born DAN LEVINE is based New York City where he plays Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba in studios and stages throughout the US and the world. He's a student of Charles Levine, Donald Yaxley, Buddy Baker, Roy Main, and Ralph Sauer of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Shortly after graduating from the University Of Northern Colorado, he headed off for a world tour as lead trombonist for the great Ray Charles. Upon returning to New York, he's recorded and toured with artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, Jay-Z, Toshiko Akiyoshi, The Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Liza Minelli, Linda Eder, David Byrne, They Might Be Giants, and Tori Amos. Dan’s numerous TV and radio appearances include performing on: Late Night with Conan O’Brian, David Letterman, Brave New World, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Today Show, Live With Regis and Kelly, The View, Rosie O’Donnell, The Larry Sanders Show, The Essence Awards, ESPN Nascar Awards, Studio 360, WNYC's New Sounds, Prairie Home Companion, and This American Life. As a composer, arranger and and producer, his work can be heard in Disney's "Meet The Robinsons", Malcolm In The Middle, A&E, NPR "All Things Considered", Court TV, HBO, BBC, National Geographic, The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, PBS KIDS and Sesame Street. He has also held the 1st trombone chair in several Broadway Shows : "The Producers", the all-too-short run of John Waters' Crybaby, Grand Hotel, Showboat, My Fair Lady, Liza's At The Palace, and currently the bass trombone chair at Ragtime. He's heard on many TV commercials, TV themes and film scores, including The Producers , Phillip Glass' Naqoyqatsi, American Psycho, Cremaster 3, Drawing Restraint 9. Recent scoring includes horn arrangements for David Byrne's/Brian Eno's just-released CD, and PBS Kids "GO" . Recent performances include the Rainforest Benefit at Carnegie Hall with Sting, James Taylor, and Billy Joel. , Dan can also be heard daily on The Daily Show .
