In 1909, Joseph Kegel started a bicycle shop in Freeport IL, the next year he started selling a brand of motorcycles called Harley-Davidson. By 1946, Joseph's sons Bob and Harold joined the business. Bob continued working on the motorcycle aspect of the business while Harold worked on the bicycles end.
The third generation of Kegels began working at the family business in the 1960's and in 1979, Bob brought sons Karl and Mark aboard. Bob retired in 1997, shortly after the opening of a world-class facility at 7125 Harrison Ave. in Rockford, IL. A fourth generation of Kegels is on the horizon.
Back in the 1920's, Joseph approach to the business allowed him to survive bad economic times, making Kegel's a legend within the business realm of Harley-Davidson and earning his descendants this claim... "World's Oldest Family-Owned Harley-Davidson Dealership."

In 1994, when the Kegel family began considering moving the motorcycle business into a new facility to keep up with the growing demand for Harley-Davidson® motorcycles, a little extra vision became part of the plan. Why not have a diner located in our new store? Well, the vision became a reality.
This handsome diner was designed and built by the JackPine Company of Rockford, Illinois. We are very proud to be able to offer this little “Motorcycle Oasis" to the public and enjoy being one stop in a long ride for all those who travel through this area from around the country. The diner is available for private parties, meetings or other functions looking for a unique atmosphere to hold an event. The Kegel diner welcomes you to this stop on the road.
