Glenn Sutter

About Me

Glenn Sutter plays rich, acoustic folk-rock that has a strong pulse and a deep soul. A seasoned and versatile performer on solo guitar, piano and harmonica, he uses thoughtful lyrics and moving melodies to tell stories and express ideas about nature, love, and the human condition.

A prairie boy at heart, Glenn grew up as part of musical family in southwest Manitoba, drawing early inspiration from British invasion bands, Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Dire Straits, and many other sources. For more than 20 years, he has been supporting and collaborating with folk, roots, and blues artists in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Regina, his current home. As a performing songwriter, his current influences include Steve Earle, John Hiatt, John Lennon, Sheryl Crowe, The Tragically Hip, Bill Bourne, Ben Sures, Allen Dobb, Jay Semko, and anything by Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor.
Inspired by human experiences and the troubled state of our world, Sutter's recent efforts explore the value of friends and family, and the importance of treading lightly on the Earth. He’s not out to change the world with his music, and he doesn’t care to preach with it either. Through a growing catalogue of beautifully crafted, often personal songs, he just wants to help people think about Nature, relationships, and other things that matter.
"All You Need" is his first album.

Influences: Any music that tries to say or mean something, and if it has an 'edge' to it - all the better. Favourites include John Lennon, Steve Earle, Neil Young, John Hiatt, Jay Semko, Mark Knoffler, Allen Dobb, Blue Rodeo, Bill Bourne, Tom Cochrane, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Downie, Ben Sures, and an obscure guy named Beethoven.
Sounds Like: "Glenn Sutter is a great Saskatchewan songwriter and wordsmith. He is a lyrical master in the same vein as Bob Dylan. He has an honesty to his songwriting and music that is so refreshing to me. In today's world of disposable "here today, gone tomorrow" songwriting, Glenn is one of the very few whose songs will last for years." - David j Taylor
"I am blown away at the poignancy and honesty of Glenn Sutter's lyrics, and the interesting and innovative arrangements and melodies he is coming up with. When he performs his songs live, you can't help but being drawn into the pictures he paints with his music - fantastic!!!" - Jay Semko
