I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a farmer, a forester, a legislator. I am the mother of three amazing people; wife of a patient, kind, funny man. I rescue barn kittens even when there are too many barn cats. I have assisted in the births of two calves, and that was so much easier and way more fun than any of my own three birthings! I will talk to you about the complexities and necessity of rural economic development and downtown revitalization until your eyes bleed. I laugh spontaneously and loudly. I was counseled once at work that my laugh is distracting and I should stop. I’m not quite over that one yet.Secret of Life: Dance til you Laugh... Laugh til you Cry...

THE NOW
by Nancy E. Smith
I do not stand on the sidelines.
I do not sit back and observe.
I can’t even see,
I’m down on my knees,
Up to my neck in this thing.
There are those who can talk on a Grand Scale,
But here on this farm on the hill,
Dirt stains my hands
Sweat burns my eyes
My brain
and my heart feel the strain.
Don’t think I’m not paying attention.
It consumes me whatever I do.
But I cannot create
Great Pronouncements,
Debate
all the Big Picture Plans.
I’m up to my elbows
In feed, guts, and grime
worrying most of the time.
My vision is clear
My energy real
Immediate.
Urgent.
The Now.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I shook Bill Clinton’s hand last year. Twice. Noel Paul Stookey is handsome and charming, and Paul Newman’s eyes really are that blue. Got to meet Madeline Albright Oct 2007 and Margaret Chase Smith almost 20 years ago. So I guess I'm all set on meeting famous folks.I would like to meet people who care about "Buy Local" ethics and ag issues, and of course, people who live in Monmouth, Litchfield, and Wales - the three towns I represent in the Maine House.
