It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors.

About Me

I am a silly, organized girl that wears frilly aprons whilst baking muffins. I like drinking tea on my fire escape. I am told I make the strangest facial expressions. I'm animated. I act like I fell out of an anime when I am in love; a bubbly, fast-talking, random gift giver. I talk to stuffed animals, mostly to one named Lumpy. I am not easily swayed. Libra. I am shy, but I love talking once you get to know me. I get things done. I am witty. I'm never satisfied unless I'm doing something for someone; motherly. I feel wise beyond years--I have the attitude of an 82-year-old woman--but I still like dancing around my house. I should have lived in a different era. I like things that have gone out of style: reading, sewing, boys in frock coats, and tea cups. I multi-task! Lately, I have really gotten into playing tennis, mostly against a brick wall in a parking lot and I lose all the balls over the roof. I love movies that make you think (foreign films and drama), but also ones that let you escape (romantic comedies). I take pictures, but not all time time. I love adventuring. Bathing...and getting to choose what shampoo. Languages, cultures, traveling. Going for walks, being in the woods. Beautiful things. Fashion. Sewing my own clothes out of pretty fabrics. Cutting peoples' hair. I wish I wrote more, sometimes I write poems while driving on the expressway (dangerous).

I am Lauren. Did you get all that from looking at me?

Mostly, though, my interests are listed on the left. If you want to know more, MSN me at [email protected]!

Music:

Good beat and good melodies/lyrics = thumbs up.

My favorites are folksy female singers; Jaymay, Anna Nalick, Fiona Apple, A Fine Frenzy, Nicole Atkins, Brandi Carlile, Regina Spektor, Feist, Dido, Ingrid Michaelson, etc.

I also like industrial/techno and German music; Einsturzende Neubauten, And One, Covenant, The Knife, Royksopp, VNV Nation, KMFDM, Apoptygma Berzerk, Funker Vogt, and others.

Also, The Beatles, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Harry Nilsson, The White Stripes, Goo Goo Dolls, The Decemberists, Counting Crows, and Radiohead. Although I am open to almost anything.

I also love 20s-esque French music. Beautiful music that you would imagine being played in an old jazz club.

And classical (I go to the symphony a lot); Chopin being my favorite composer. =]

Movies:

Ghost World, Full Metal Jacket, Lord of War, Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, 8MM, Spirited Away, It Could Happen to You, Enemy at the Gates, Super Troopers, Paprika, Across the Universe, City of Angels, American Psycho, Edward Scissorhands, Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Pulp Fiction, A Clockwork Orange, Bringing Out the Dead, Fight Club, The Ring, V for Vendetta, etc.

I like foreign films, dramas, and comedies the most. Some of my favorite directors: Quentin Tarantino, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Takashi Miike, Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, The Coen Brothers, Mary Harron, and David Lynch.

Television:

Jeopardy, What Not to Wear, The Office, Reno-911, Relic Hunter, and some documentaries on the history channel. I don't watch a lot of television.

Books:

I like Russian literature, dystopian novels, anything existential, and most of the classics. But, from time to time, I will read a modern fiction book. So, go me?

My favorite authors: Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Camus, Voltaire, Sartre, Rand, Burgess, Orwell, Zamyatin, Bradbury, and Palanhiuk.

Crime and Punishment is my most favorite book of all time.

Heroes:

Voltaire, Chopin, and my lovely mother and silly father.
