Mama’s Pit spin-off of Big Fat Mama’s last line-up, the historical italian blues group: under this name they performed with Sonny Rhodes and Beverly Watson in ’95 at the “Arenzano Blues†festival. In ’96 they concluded the opening of the "Bordighera Jazz’n Blues Festival". Next they shared stage with Philip Walker again at the “Arenzano Blues†’96. In july of the same year they played at the “San Remo Blues Festival†with Lucky Peterson and Clarence “Gatemouth†Brown. Then at the “Sori Jazz & Blues†which hosted guests such as Joe Louis Walker and the Platters. In ’97 the band decided to change its name from Big Fat Mama to Mama’s Pit renewing their sound which is now a fusion of blues, rhytm’n blues, soul and jazz, thanks to the enviable experience of the band members. Opening acts with Robert Plant and James Cotton, and collaborations with Johnny Mars, Billy Cobham, Sherman Robertson, Jack Mc Duff, Gary Husband, Mike Stern, Paul Jeffrey incentived them to develop a sound that breaths black music. The new name appears for the first time on the “Narcao Blues†billboard beside Roy Roberts and Scott Henderson, subsequently at the “Castel San Pietro Festivalâ€, Rome, with Johnny Mars. In the summer of ’99 they opened the “Tiferno Blues Festival†and the “Sanremo Immagine Jazz & Blues†as a backup to Kenny Neal and Art Garfunkel. The opening evening of the “Valdagno Blues†opens a series of summer gigs in 2000 around the peninsula including “4b Festival†in Lecce and the “Midsummer Blues Party†in Pontecurone. The debut-cd, welcomed with great enthusiasm by European and American critics, also saw the collaboration of the saxophone’s player James Thompson and the appearance of an old friend: Johnny Mars. In ’02 a double cd was published for “Comet Records†label, including a remake of the first cd with two bonus tracks played together with Scott Finch; also Vic Vergeat played in a few tracks - both musicians for the same music company: the live recordings was made in Saint Moritz (Switzerland). The new cd received a favourable review from specialized international critics. They promoted the new tour at other important Blues festivals such as the “Poggio Murella Bluesâ€, the “Trasimeno Blues†and the “Torrita Blues Festivalâ€, during which another live was recorded and published on the double cd “Comet Records All Starsâ€, with the performances of Mike Onesko’s band and Vic Vergeat’s band, musicians who will partecipate together with Mama’s Pit at the final jam session. During the same tour they also took part at the “Piazza Blues†Festival in Bellinzona (Switzerland), one of the most important European festivals and the “South in Blues†festival around the Sardinia region. In ’04 they participated in two tribute cd to Jimy Hendrix, appearing with famous international artists such as Robben Ford, Hiram Bullock, Larry Coryell, Steve Lukater ecc. This dvd is witness of their concert held in Skopje (Macedonia) the 3rd of july 2003 on the same stage as David “Honeyboy†Edwards, a ninety years old musician, Robert Johnson’s adventures companion.
