Amia Dane

Born and raised in Los Angeles California, jazz singer-songwriter, Amia Dane has released her debut CD, Have Mercy. The recording is a sonic journey through the panorama of life’s ups and downs. Amia Dane’s lush and graceful voice has dynamic range—one moment conjuring autumn landscapes of loneliness in deep resonant tones before elevating the listener into vivid, joyful notes of spring and romance. She uses a full color palette, one moment evoking Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and at other times Joni Mitchell and Diana Krall; the music moves from the classic stylings of “Where Does The Time Go?” to the exquisite melancholic minimalism of “Alone” to the funky backbeat of “All For Nothing.” But in the end Amia’s voice is distinctly hers and it is her vocal instrument’s unique beauty that brought a tear to Randy Newman’s eyes when he heard her sing his composition, “Real Emotional Girl.”Amia’s music is about emotional truth, triumph and exploration. “When I sing I’m giving my soul over for that moment. The songs I like best are the ones that help you to know who you are: songs that provoke thought, emotion and connection.”
