King David

About Me

Every artist has a story. The story of King David (David Manzoor) starts on January 17th, 1983 in Los Angeles. Encouraged to play music very early on in life by his family, he started playing piano at the age of 3 and a half. He quickly embraced the piano and proved to be a natural talent. Raised in a Persian-Jewish community in West LA, David has been influenced by the rich culture and heritage of his community. David’s outstanding ability to produce Hip-Hop music draws from various influences ranging from Middle-Eastern to Mozart. As a child, David studied classical music and by the age of 5 he had already started composing his own songs. As David grew older, his skills and talent grew as well. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, he competed in and won several national and international composition and performance competitions, much like famed Hip-Hop producer Scott Storch. His achievements (performances at Greek Theatre: age 8, Stockholm, Sweden: age 10) have been chronicled in publications such as the Los Angeles Times.Throughout his life, David has been a student of various genres of music, ranging from classical to electronic. When David was in middle school, he studied Jazz and Blues at the Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences. There, he was in the Jazz band and also began to explore new methods of making music. At 12, David started studying music technology, track sequencing, MIDI recording and programming; expanding his horizons to include electronic music. Around the same time, David bought his first DJ system. Although David always listened to Hip-Hop as a youth growing up in Los Angeles, DJing officially made David a student of the Hip-Hop art form.Studying masters such as Dr. Dre and DJ Premier, David learned how to carefully craft beats, paying close attention to production styles and values. In his senior year of high school, David got his first of many production tools, the Korg Triton Pro workstation. Since then, he has been making his own brand of hip hop music. Pent up in his room for hours at a time, David made beat after beat until his music began to sound like that of a professional. His crew, along with BeNMaDD and DJ Radius, is rightly dubbed “The Perfectionists” because of their dedication to quality Hip-Hop. Shortly after high school, David went on to Northeastern University in Boston to double-major in Music Technology and Music Industry. He is also a resident DJ at Modern and Penthouse, two very popular clubs in Boston. As his credibility grows among music professionals, King David’s fan base in LA and Boston grows as well.
