..Adama Traoré was born on 4th October 1968 in the Northâ€Ivorycoast. He grew up in the African
metropole “Abidjan“ and as a teenager toured his home country a few times with the reggae superstars
„Alpha Blondy“ and „Ismael Isaac“ helping backstage.
This was his first real contact with reggae artists. His favorite music was of course the Reggae of Bob
Marley and Burning Spear. Since his arrival in Germany in 1990, Adama has worked as a printer and
spent his spare time playing African drums with his best friend from Senegal, Mamadou Beye Diop.
It was then that he met and married his great love, and in 1993 his first daughter Nadine was born.
One day Adama was invited by reggae singer Mike Tilassi to play keyboard in his band and he discovered
the instrument in an exciting new way. During the years following, he played in various bands
and gathered experience.
In 1997 Adamas’ secound daughter Lindsay was born. After a while he decided to found his own
band and in 2006 Adama Traoré began practising his own songs with his daughters joining him on the
stage. Nadine took up the bass guitar and Lindsay the guitar.
In 2006 the guitarist Ky (Vietnam) and in 2007 the keyboard player, Axel (Germany) joined the band,
allowing Adama to focus more on his role as lead singer. In the spring of 2008 the Sunshine Reggae
Band grew with the arrival of drummer Hamed (Sierra Leone) and Johannes (Germany) on the trombone.
The summer of 2008 saw the band grow further with the percussionist Pabi (Gambia) joining
the scene, and together, they launched their twelve track debut album “Liberté“. Featuring on the
album is saxophonist Eduard Aïba (Ivorycoast), who has played with great musicians such as Alpha
Blondy. The album was presented on 30th August 2008 with an Openâ€Airâ€Releaseâ€Concert in Hagen,
the band’s home city. Special Guests at the event were “Ismäel Alpha Koné – alias Agana“ (France â€
son of Alpha Blondy) and “Jah Aye“ (Kenia).
Adama & Kids and the Sunshine Reggae Band are playing basically Jamaican and African Reggae
and they draw inspiration from artists all over the world. The songs are mainly about poverty, inequality,
and the ongoing racial difficulties between human beings. Much in accord with the original
themes of reggae music, the band seeks to spread propaganda for peace, and the tolerance and
respect of other people and cultures. With this fresh mix of multinational talent, the band‘s music
reflects its core principle. “We will not give up the dream of a better world with more peace, more
dialogue and more fairness!â€.
