About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
Most bands usually have stories about growing up with eachother in their childhood days and learning how to play different instruments with eachother. Well, the fish flakes story is a little different. One day, after school, Tom the drummer was walking home and ran into these two kids on the street. These two kids were Dan the guitarist, and John the Bassist. John asked Tom to join their band and play guitar even though they had never met eachother before. Tom told John he didn't play guitar forgetting that he was at the moment carrying a guitar. John asked Tom why he had a guitar and Tom explained that he takes classes at school but sucked balls at playing guitar. However, Tom told them he palyed drums, so they asked him to join. Tom was a little skeptical because he had just met these kids on the street, so he said he would call him. They exchanged numbers and that was that until about two weeks later.
Within the next two weeks, Tom's other band had dissolved. Coincidently, Dan ran into Tom and they began talking about what would later become The Fish Flakes. They decided to give it a shot and had their first practice in Tom's basement. The 3-piece band started playing crappy Nirvana covers and fast punk songs. They then began to explore the forgotten realm of grunge music and attempted to combine punk rock with grunge music. Eventually, the band had about 7 songs made. By this time a couple months had passed and the band still hadn't come up with a band name and still did not have a singer. After numberous auditions for the vocal spot, the microphone was given to Dan and he became the singer/guitarist. So now the band was complete with Dan singing and on guitar, and then John on bass, and the Tom on drums.
The band quickly began to write song lyrics ranging from anti-MTV, anti-FCC, anti-war, to stories about mice. Dan and Tom both had collections of lyrics they had written in the past and found those very useful to the whole project. Every practice, the three band members would sit around trying to figure out a clever band name. We went from being the garden gnomes, to being the reflectors, to being RUI (Rockin' Under the Influence). Obviously they were dumb names. So one day Tom was thinking about his home of Fish Flake Hill in Beverly, MA. Then he realized that Dan also lived on Fish Flake Hill. This sparked the idea for their name to be The Fish Flakes. They all agreed it was an appropriate name for the mean time and stuck with it.
Now that the fish flakes were complete with songs and names and everything, it was time for their first show. On August 26th, The Fish Flakes played their first show at the Gloucester Artspace in Gloucester, MA. The Fish Flakes were the opening band for 5 on 2, Plan 17, and Emergency Guns, who were not able to make it due to car troubles. When the Fish Flakes got to the Artspace, they realized they were playing at a ska show. Now no matter how ridiculously sweet ska music is, it wasn't the right place for the punk/grunge band. However, they decided to play anyways. They played pretty well for a first show, only making small mess ups in some songs. For the most part, they played great, to the FOUR PEOPLE that were in the audience. Oh well, whatever, it was the first gig what do you expect? So The Fish Flakes continued to make more music and schedule shows for the future. So you better look out, because The Fish Flakes are going to come and musically impregnate you. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE US TO PLAY A SHOW! WE LOVE MUSIC AND WILL PLAY A SHOW ANYTIME!
