Singer/guitarist Robee whitmire met bassist brian martinez in middle school. robee had been playing music since he was 12 or 13.he started on drums and played in a few bands, doing mostly nirvana covers.he learned guitar quickly and soon wanted to play his own music for the world. brian picked up the bass and the two eventually started recording music together under the name "ammonia". when a basement show came up, they were asked to play so they quickly asked mutual friend Matt chambers to get behind his drums for them. matt had never taken the drums seriously until then.at this time, the band went by the name 'ammonia' . the trio only had 2 nights to practice before the show. they hastily learned 3 originals robee wrote. the show was of course untight and terrible. unless you consider the fact that they had only played together for the 2 nights prior.
after another disaterous show a week later, the band took a break from live shows to practice and write. it is in this break that the name drowning scarlett came to be. the name derived from a horrible dream that robee had. in the dream, he was roaming thru the woods and came to a pond. when he looked across the pond, he saw a mother and her little daughter. just at that moment the mother grabbed her daughter by the hair and pushed her head under the water. robee was just about to scream when the mother saw him and pulled the daughters head up. robee awoke and somehow had the name 'scarlett' in his head....
the band believes that music should have passion and emotion, not just screaming the whole time. Theyre now rapidly gaining a bigger fan base by unleashing their brand of ecclectic piss-in-your-face-screaming-punk-rock on the scene....
