Nicole Casey was born in Essex (as Nicole Clark) and studied singing at the Royal College of Music in London. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music honours degree, Nicole felt somewhat confused about which direction her voice was going to take her.
Her operatic debut was as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, she performed in the obligatory oratorios and classical concerts and even attempted to bring opera and musical theatre to the masses by doing workshops for schools and community groups.
Two years after graduating and drifting around musically, Nicole decided to take a break and went to work in a karaoke bar in Spain!
After a few months of fun and games she returned home but still felt disillusioned with the world of classical music. So, once again Nicole packed her bags and returned to Spain- this time as a singer in hotels and restaurants. To begin with, Nicole worked solo with backing tracks and soon built a good reputation in Sout East Spain. She specialised in background and ambience music and people would visit restaurants not only to eat but to hear Nicole sing her laid back mix of easy listening, show songs and jazz standards. Nicole also worked in a piano bar where she played classical piano as well as accompanying herself.
As a result of a BBC film crew needing more footage, Nicole had her first taste of cabaret in 2004 when she was asked to support Black Lace frontman Colin Gibb. The footage barely made it on screen but it was all good experience!
In 2005 Nicole moved to Almeria and became heavily involved in the jazz scene in and around Mojacar. Working closely with keyboard player, arranger and producer Colin Frechter, Nicole fronted a number of Jazz line-ups in a wide variety of venues. She developed a passion for jazz standards and also latin and spanish jazz-influenced songs. Delving into the world of Spanish music soon won her the respect of local music lovers as well as fellow musicians. Nicole was one of the first non-Spanish singers to be invited to perform at the infamous Jazz Life Cafe in Mojacar Pueblo, where she was also featured performing on the TV programme "Hot Nights, Cool Places".
Nicole is now based back in the UK and became a member of Equity in 2007. She is working on various TV projects as a voiceover artist and is currently involved with the new series of Dr Who.
