Roosevelt Martin Jr. AKA RoeShow [email protected] say the fruit does not fall far from its tree. Well this saying holds true for this new upcoming artist. Taking his father’s love of music and desire to be a singer, Roosevelt felt the need to pursue his lifetime dream. Encouraged by family and friends in 2004 he began writing and composing his songs using the popular old school music and updating it with hip hop rap style that has strong messages, but yet a funky beat to keep you moving. Roosevelt’s talent was noticed by family at the age of 6. His skills were manicured throughout his High School and College years as he performed in plays and musicals. By 1989 he joined a professional community choir “Mark Hubbard and United Voices for Christ”, where they completed 5 recordings. But it didn’t stop here, Roosevelt wanted more and in 1992 he began taking drum lessons at the Dorling Music Academy. This proved to be an excellent choice for him. Roosevelt began playing as the main drummer for the Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church choirs. In 1997 he began playing for a quartet called the Gospel Twilights of Chicago. By April 2000 he was hired by another group called the “Calvary Baptist Church of Glenview, IL, as their main drummer. Not giving up his desire to sing, in 2001 he joined Malcolm Williams and Great Faith choir and participated in two CD recordings. He has also had one CD recording with Dorothy Norwood. Roosevelt has been involved in several local R&B bands and has done many concerts with Iridium and Kazamae Jazz Band. Today, Roosevelt sings with Malcolm’s choir and is the main drummer for Aby Cruz’s band in Chicago, IL. This talented, highly energetic, and self-motivated artist has shared the stage with artist such as Percy Grey & New Direction, Teddy Pendegrass, Percy Bady, Karen Clark Sheer, and Rance Allen. Roosevelt is also working on a film with Tyrone McFarlin entitled “Tyrone”. He has assisted Mr. McFarlin on many casting calls as well as behind scene shootings; he is hopeful that this film will come to the theatres. He has been used as an extra in films “Let’s Go to Prison” and “Jail Break”.
